of the 4 you listed Winnebago got my money and Four winds would be a second. Georgetown was not the quality level in the units we saw. Damon was promising - less expensive than the Winnie but you could see why. NOT a bad coach, just not as many details taken as deep.
if you're just starting to look, don't be in a rush. look at a hundred units, read the FAQ at the top of all the post and lastly - as you have already - ask lots of question here!

Hi,
This past April we went from a 27' Holiday Rambler travel trailer that we loved for 17 years. We decided we wanted to try a Class A.
We had been looking for over a year, did the Hershey show just to see what we did want, and what we didn't want. It was a great learning experience, especially the pushy sales people from the non pushy.
We looked some more after that, and finally found "the" one for us. It is a Winnebago 29R sightseer, 2008. We liked the quality, the little details that you don't find on other brands. One of the biggies was the amount of gasket you get around all of the compartment doors. Others either didn't have it, or very skimpy with it.
The information that is available from Winnebago on the internet is outstanding. I did so much research before, that I knew more about the product than the salesperson did.
The small size for us was because we have a small yard, and anything larger just wouldn't fit.
This forum was just wonderful, and helped us to be smart shoppers. Insurance, and financing wasn't too scary because everyone
was so helpful.
The model that we picked is considered and entry level. Actually, I'm still in my "starter" home 33 years later. I still don't get these snobby terms.
Get out the paper and pencil, write down what you want, need, can live with, can't live without. Don't forget to figure in taxes, tags, insurance, and things that you will need that weren't needed to trailer with.
Like the others said, make sure it is what you both want. Remember, it is your dollar, not anyone else's.
Good luck in your search.

Our Hurricane has treated us well. It's a nice floorplan, and Fourwinds has been great to work with. We've had a couple issues with vendor supplied components (a/c unit, jack controller) but the parts manufactured by Fourwinds haven't given us any problems
Winnebago is a solid choice with a long track record to back up their product. Wen't on thier factory tour, and was very impressed with thier manufactuing process.
If you're looking at bunk models, Hurricane has the edge as it uses long twin bunks as compared to standard or short twins used by the other manufactures in the list.

We are in our sixth summer with our Georgetown and are very happy with it. A lot of bang for the dollar. By the way Georgetown also now has the fiberglass roof.
The Ford chassis has been great and with a wet weight of about 18,000 lbs and a GVWR of 22,000 lbs there is lots of capacity to load.

Hello Fellow Jersyite!
We just upgraded from a Class C to Class A two weeks ago. Must have looked at 20 or so used vehicles in NY - CT - PA & NJ. Finally purchased a 2005 Gulfstream w/ 11,000 miles. So far, I find it is made well and easy to drive, but lacks some convenience lighting in the cockpit. No roof or slide leaks noted. Drivers and passenger seats are really comfortable. Of course we really like it, but looking back at the process and some of the rigs we thought we liked, I am glad that some of the deals fell through. I'm glad we waited to find an RV that suited 90% of our needs. The things we were looking for were: at least one slide and a roomy one room shower/sink/toilet, and nice looking interior. I realize you are talking about buying new, but my advise is the same - find one you "think" you like, look at some others, go back to the one you like and compare. Also, compare the things you don't like about the interior of your travel trailer to the new one. We were planning on going to Hershey ourselves, but now there is no need to. Don't be afraid to IM me if you need to talk.

Wow, I will try and keep this short, MY ADVICE and should I say again MY ADVICE after purchasing a 2008 Georgetown Bunkhouse has been GOOD (thanks again Barrington RV) just remember what you get in a starter RV Class A. I was not happy with spending 80$ and not getting a inverter, or a compass, temperature gauge, (some other creature comforts we enjoyed in our minivan that was our first motor home) somewhat of a short list.
My point as I like to talk and type IS do your homework I agree with most of the people that shot me down when I complained about these things before and basically told me I purchased a Ford Escort GT and I should have thought HARD about purchasing a five or six year old RV and got more amenities such as a emaciator pump, better gauges for my tanks (see level here I come) and an inverter. So in short do your homework and see what things YOU guys WANT and NEED to make your Class A RV experience the best it can!
By the way our Forest River has held up well just small items that are adding up to being a pain. But not major problems!

We have an entry level class A. It's a 2005 Winnebago Sightseer on a Ford 2006 chassis. We are currently at Yellowstone National Park on our way back to Seattle.
We have been on the road since May 3rd and we have traveled from Seattle to LA, then on to Washington DC. We have put many miles on this rig and other than a few light bulbs burning out we haven't had a problem.
As others have said it is very important to check ccc. Some people buy the rig they like only to find after they fill it with fuel, LP gas, water, and supplies it is over weight. Make sure you know and understand ccc and check the ccc for the rig you are looking at. Usually ccc is posted inside a closet in the bedroom.
If you plan to tow you might want to check towing capability. One of the reasons I picked the Winnebago Sightseer is because it has a towing capacity of 8,000 pounds. The receiver hitch was only rated for 5,000 pounds but I had a nationally known manufacturer of hitches strengthen my hitch and certify it for 7,500 pounds.
My last bit of advice is about air conditioning. We traveled through Texas in May and June. Our rig has only one air conditioner. If you plan to be in 100 degree F. plus weather I'd suggest a rig with two air conditioners. If you plan to travel in the Northwest then one air conditioner is OK.
It took me a year and a half to decide on the RV that is right for us. I have no regrets.
Enjoy the process and look, look, look. What is right for me may not be the rig for you. Oh, and don't forget to test drive a lot of different rigs.
