A tornado watch was just issued for Key West to Marathon (way south). But this thing looks to break up and roll off into the Gulf.

We live 20 miles west of Fort Lauderdale. Current conditions typical of a bad storm that rolls in this time of year. But we expect it to get worse in the next 24 hours. Some predictions of 4-8 inches of rain and tornado threats.
Last I heard, they think it will make landfall a little south of Naples, but as always that is subject to change. Our MH is in storage - an inside spot which we pay thru the nose for, but glad we have it especially this time year.
If we were in a MH and had no house down here, we would have been gone already. 1-2 days ago there wasn't enough info on the storm direction or strength and since it takes a good 2 days to get out of the state (from down here) you can't wait too long otherwise you are driving in the mess or heavy traffic if an evacuation is ordered.
But realistically -- if we had no house, we would not be in Florida this time of year anyway.

Sounds like we're all having dinner with Fay, then. Supposed to get nasty for a few minutes here. It's coming in right now, and it's big and black. They said of the shelters opened, 5 whole people showed up so far. Maybe rearrange a couple things so I can haul the slide in if the wind gets that high. But after that, I'm gonna kick back and play cards.

We stayed put with out fifth wheel at a storage lot in western part of Ft. Lauderdale. The storm as of the 5 PM advisory is suppose to come ashore around Ft Meyers and go up the middle of the state into Georgia. Since the intensity was forcasted to be a tropical storm or a low catagory one hurricane no reason to run.

I'm 24 miles east of Apalachicola-I ran when told to evacuate for Dennis, we had storm surge damage and I was glad I left. Katrina was just a rainy day here, but I'm keeping a weather eye on Fay. The mh is gassed up, the toad is gassed up, I have the larder full, plenty of cat food for the 2 fur-kids, 3/4 tank fresh water, empty waste tanks and I'm ready to go at the first hint of trouble. It's looking to be a thunderstorm rain event here, so sitting tight for the moment.

How can you spend two days getting out of state?
Mapquest shows a distance of 416.85 miles and six hours and nineteen minutes driving time from Ft Lauderdale to Valdosta GA.

Wow! some really passionate responses. & pretty much down the middle. It seemed to me your pretty much d*#ned if you do & d*#med if you don't. We plan to stay, the park manager may decide to close the park tomorrow am in which case we will go to a nephews driveway about 30 miles west from here. We are vetrans of hurricanes, origanally from Hollywood in S.fl. We rode out Wilma in Miami( a pretty direct hit) tucked up next to a friends house, with no problems. Of course we were IN the house during the storm! Friends who were staying at Markham park in Broward county left there this am & are spending the night in Titusville, planning to return to Broward tomorrow. They have been driving in heavy rain most of the day( I'm sure that was fun!) but little wind. The projected path right now will bring the center pretty close to us, but it is a tropical storm & all we expect is rain. This is no Andrew or Katrina. I'll let you know how we fair :-)

I am not sure how to take your post... I don't know if your head is full of testosterone, you are serious, or just making light of it...
Fay may be a non event as many are, but all the same it is a serious matter with many unknown variables...
everyone especially in a RV should give some thought to having alternatives, should things change for the worse quickly...
Fay may be no more than a thunderstorm, but tornados are as unpredictable give very little warning...you can't wait for a warning to find safe shelter should the need arise...
a cavalier resident attitude won't be of much help to a non resident unfamiliar with the area...
riding out a sever storm in a RV is never the best option but sometimes may be the only one without advanced planning...
if possible at the very least check into a CG that has safe buildings for emergency shelter... ask when checking in about their emergency plans...

Fay may be a non-event, I hope so, but I am still going to take a drive in the mh to Pensacola and watch from a distance. The track is not moving west, it is moving east. Rather be safe than sorry.

Well we are hunkered down here in east not so sunny central Florida and plan to ride it out as we have for all the other storms that have come our way & only because Our TT is in the shop in Orlando for a leaky slide out. Our generator is here & ready to go in case we lose power. One of the reasons we bought our TT was so that we could get away if we had a bad storm coming or if we lost power we could use it for the a/c. But I cant do that now.
Hopefully it is safe and secure from the storm but if not I could use a new one.
