Hi there all,
DW and I are heading out in a couple weeks for our two week vacation in northern Oregon/southern Washington areas. We are thinking we will need to stop the night one night in the Redbluff or Redding areas, or we might make it as far north as yreka. We were hoping to find a place we could boondock for the night in one of these areas. Considering it will be late August, we might want to run the generators to run the AC to cool the rig down. Does anyone have any insight on what our options might be in that part of the state. Your input would be greatly appreicated. Thanks! Happy Camping! - Eric -

If you make it all the way to Yreka, take 263 instead of I-5 north to 96. There are about 6 pull off spots where people overnight. Being a back road, there isn't much traffic. If they are all full, the rest stop where 96 crosses I-5 can serve as a backup.

I think Redding has an ordinance against overnighting in paking lots,
Anderson Wallmart has a sign but see rigs in there all the time. Jim

There is a nice Forest Service Campground in Red Bluff. Last time we were there, they were putting in electric service.

Just fifteen minutes from Mt. Shasta City, across the dam and up the road towards Castle Lake, down a dirt road to the Southeast of the roadway we found:

You could also boondock up above Yreka on Humbug Hill. We found awesome spots up Everitt Memorial Highway where you can pull off and camp on Mt. Shasta itself with NOBODY around.
Camping is rampant up there. I recognize the 96 turnoff and figure you can get a LOT further away from a road than that, and still be close to I5. Even down 96 you can get OVER the Klamath and camp along the dirt road that runs parallel.
If you're really interested, I've got LOTs of ideas for that area. I lived up there for years before I moved down to Sacramento area.
Nights are COLD btw. We were at or below freezing on Labor Day weekend at about 6K elevation.
