I placed an order with McMurray Hatchery for some exotic chickens and got them on Friday! Yep, we got 25 of them, plus one free one!
I'll post more about them later, but for now, here's a few pics from when we received them in the mail (yes, they really send LIVE chicks through the mail!)

That green stuff in the last picture is a special food that we ordered with the chicks. It gives them all the nutrition and liquids they need when they first arrive at their destination.

They are Beautiful! They remind me of days gone by. One day I picked up about 100 chicks in an alley behind a hatchery. They had thrown out the eggs that didn't hatch on time, then hatched in the sun. My mother was unhappy with me when I brought them home. We lived in the country at the time with all they needed. later that year when our income was short the wild chickens made for some good eating. I was about 10 at the time. Enjoy life whenever you can, and enjoy the chicks peeping a song!

Julie,
They're so cute! It's looks like Easter time! Also you need to fix your link.

I sometimes have to go pick up the mail for work and have on several occasions at the P.O. enjoyed the sweet music of live chicks in boxes being sent.

We haven't lost another chicken (or duck or goose) in at least two months. We DID see a dead fox on the side of the road a while ago. Our neighbors also found a "pile" of dead, partially eaten chickens (ours) when they were chopping hay. I'm not sure if it was the fox (now dead), the raccoon (trapped and relocated), or the feral cat (trapped twice, and recently found dead -- hit by a car), but in any event, we're being MUCH more careful to close the coop up at dusk, and have made quite a few repairs to it (new windows, new door, etc.) so that whatever was getting them can't get in.
The chicks are in the house for now, in a small plastic kiddie pool, in my craft room. They have a warming light on them and of course, food and water. Aaron also placed a stuffed Scoobie Doo in there and they cuddle around it at night to keep warm! I have to take some more pics and will post the pool with Scoobie and the chicks!

From reading the topic, I thought maybe McDonalds had come up with a new chicken sandwich or something. They are darling! (Much better than a chicken sandwich at McDonalds.)

Great pictures.
Brings back old memories of when our kids were young. Order the chicks, Wait about a couple of weeks and the post office is calling every 1/2 hour to make sure you come and pick them up soon.

Good Julie hope you don't lose anymore chicks. I love going into the feed store and hearing all the chicks peeping. If you want one better get it they sell them fast. I grew up with chickens and other animals and the worse thing was gathering eggs and getting pecked.
