So the remodel guy showed up today to start on the bedroom and bath remodel, some pretty serious work. I warned him about not leaving an outside door open so the cats would not escape..

NO worries ,, Both of the scared y cats are under the couch that has the full to the floor material curtain.. They are NOT coming out till he leaves.

You may want to put the cats somewhere while the remodeling is going on. I am sure the contractor will do his best to keep doors closed, but with going in and out carrying equipment and supplies sometimes the door may be left open, at least until he can put what he is carrying down and turn around to close the door.

We haven't undergone any extensive remodeling, but when we were in the process of moving the last time, we kept our cats confined in the bathroom while carrying stuff out of the house and loading up the truck. (The bathroom had already been emptied of stuff that was being moved, except for the litter box, cat food bowls, etc.) That worked very well and no worries about them streaking out the door when we had our arms full of boxes or furniture. In your case, any room with doors that's not involved with the remodel will do.

Our female cat would be under the bed, and would remain invisible until well after everyone was gone. Our male cat would be hanging out and "helping" the contractor.

Same here!

And because my male cat would be doing his best to "help", I always make sure I go ahead and lock both of them in a safe room (or their carriers) just to be absolutely safe.

Being a licensed remodler for years I don't think it's fair to the workmen to put the responsibility of your cats safety on them. As was mentioned before they make dozens of trips in and out of your home for tools and material and their thoughts can't always be on your pets. Your cats safety is your responsibility alone and your fault if they freak out and run. I think you should confine them to another part of the house..... IMO..

Oh, I totally agree about locking them up. I wouldn't actually LET Max help...he "helps" me plenty enough as it is...LOL!

I wish my cat were that way! We're remodeling out bathroom (doing it ourselves) This morning I primed the floor in the bathroom so we can put down new tile this morning. Turned around and there was Dawg leaving kitty footprints across the paint. He's much too curious for his own good!

We had our new roof & the roofer had cleaned up & left. Neighbors had just moved out & there house sat empty. We had 3 outdoor/indoor cats & 1 didn't show up for dinner. Wasn't till he missed breakfast the next morning that I started getting concerned. At first I thought he might have gotten locked in next door, but couldn't see any evidence of him inside. Then I was convinced he had gotten into the roofer's dumpster & had been taken to the dump. While I stood on the porch discussing over the phone this possibility with DH I heard a weak meow! I looked up & saw my cats face looking back at me thru the screening over one of the roof vents. I ran & got a knife & a ladder. I climbed up, cut the screen, reached in & retrieved the cat. He had gotten "roofed" in & was up there for 2 days. DH was very frustrated with me however. He wanted to know why I had cut the screen & not just opened the attic door! I didn't realize that the vents opened to the attic!
