I smell something fishy. If the dealer says that they are of about the same value, then why could he sell a used pup before he sold a new TT? Now, if you assume that some people really want some of the add on features, then maybe. But the dealer would not be doing this unless it is in his favor. Right now, the pup may be of greater value to the dealer than it is to you.
I would always consider a new pup/TT over a used pup/TT any day. Maybe it's just me. I figure I could add air to the new pup/TT, etc. if needed. I think you should take stock in your existing pup before you make any decisions. Look around and see what you make and model with like features is going for. I don't know if trailer sales follows any type of "Blue Book". As an Example, I was looking at a Jeep this afternoon. The dealer wanted $8900 for the Jeep. I looked it up on bluebook.com and the private party sale price for the same Jeep was $4800 and the trade-in was $2600. By this math, you may be loosing a substantial amount of money and the dealer making a substantial amount of money.
You might start by taking the new trailer and calculating what it would cost to add additional features. Then see what you think the TT is valued at. If it is close to what your pup is valued then you may have a deal. If it isn't then you may be supporting the dealer's retirement fund.
Hope all turns out well
Now I went to NADA. Now their number are VERY inaccurate as I put both in as used and optioned them as these come. There used prices were ~$2000 more than I paid on the PUP or the TT, had I bought it in 2006.
HOWEVER, the used prices do show a $3000 difference in the TTs favor. Obviously this is for a used TT. The PUP is used, but the TT is new. So I'm coming out ahead for sure.
Even so, I still come out ahead because of a broken water pump I would had to repair and the girlfriends VERY STRONG approval of swapping the PUP for the TT.
Have a good one.

Mike I so happy for you... yes I suspect you'll spend more time in the TT forum and we'll miss you.
Now, you said your girl friend was for this trade and I've learned the hard way... when Mama is happy, every body is happy.
Take care.

Mike,
Best of luck with the new TT...and good luck keeping the GF happy! If she's like my wife...you had better get used to visiting the RV dealer.
First it was NO WAY!!!! Then...Hmmmm...maybe. Then it was "OK...we can get a small one". Then it was "How about the Greyhawk?". Then it was "OK...I want the Granite Ridge" and we got it. One day into our first trip it became "why did you not buy me a Seneca...this is too small".
Well...we bought a used Seneca and she is happy...well...she was.
Stupid me told her last week "Hey guess what...they make a version of the Seneca with a rear shower and two bathrooms".
Her response "Idiot...how come you did not buy me that one the first time"?
Well...she ain't getting that one...

Mike,
Sad to see you leave the world of pup-ing, but I know you will enjoy the new TT. Now get out there and start modding it!

campercajun wrote: Mike, in hot weather while using the A/C, we didn't close the end bed curtains on our popups (except to change clothes) down here in Texas. That impediment to airflow would allow the trailer box to turn into a reasonable facsimile of a refrigerator, but would make the bed-ends very uncomfortable. I still think there is a problem with your A/C unit or installation, but if you are leaning towards trading for the TT, make sure your Sport Trac can handle it. Unless it's a very small TT, you may be a little short of comfort on wheelbase and power.
EDIT: Mike, I didn't mean this as a put down of either Ford in general or the Sport Trac in particular. Any light and relatively short vehicle pulling a long and/or tall trailer with a high center of gravity can be a very tiring handful on a trip, even with a good WD hitch and sway control, such as the Equal-I-Zer or Reese Strait-Line/Dual-Cam HP. I've been there, and not with a Ford or a Sport Trac.
No problem, but the Sport Trac offers fullsize truck capability while other's seem to lack. That's why I chose it over others. It's V8 output equals the weight to power ratio of the fullsize F150s 5.4L. The wheelbase is the longest out of the midsize trucks at 131" equalling a fullsize crew cab Chevy Avalanche and other fullsize extended cab and regular cab truck's wheelbase. The towing is 7000 lbs outrating my old Fullsize Nissan Titan's 6500 lbs rating and even the old style Toyota Tundra's 6500 lbs rating.
I bought this truck over others for it's greater ability to pull a TT, while having enough payload for passengers, and having a good hitch weight rating as well.
No truck is perfect, but I wanted a truck that would serve me at the time and for future needs. Good thing as getting a TT this soon wasn't even a thought.
Have a good one.

Sorry, for the time being, I'd like to keep that to myself. I don't want people hounding them for the same deal.
Hope you understand, have a good one.
