unfortunately , with the popularity of off-roading, and oceano being the ONLY legal place in the state of CA to do it on the beach, ANd the area only being 1500 acres, in the summertime, there is a crowd almost every day.

Glad you had a good time. I've been camping at Pismo for 10 years and just got our TH last year. Try staying out there for 5 days in a tent...everyone should experience that. One thing that I didn't see posted, was next time take 2-4 pcs of 2'x8' plywood with carpet on the corners so that you lean them along side your trailer on the beach side to stop the sand blowing under your rig. It will also stop the sand from being dug out from underneath you.

So we're back. The trailer is a mess, the toys are a mess... sand... everywhere.

We got there Wed. at about noon, which was high tide. We waited an hour for it to start going down. I didn't know where to stop so I pretty much went to the end of the camping area. The sand was REALLY soft towards the end. Thankfully I got my rig turned around without getting stuck - after being reassured by some friendly campers.

We finally found a perfect beach front spot right next to pole 5. A really great camp spot. The wind blew all day until about 6pm. I've never eaten so much sand in my life. That was pretty miserable and I was wondering why anyone liked the place. Thankfully thursday the wind calmed some and then friday the wind was calm all day.

Next time I will bring a big tarp to lay over the toys at night. They were nasty and grimy every morning.

Altogether a VERY fun trip. Thanks for all the tips and input. We didn't even get stuck, though I did get the rhino stuck once.

Ahhh, the Pismo dilemma. Great weather with no wind, the dunes stay butchered and choppy. Sandstorm for 8 hours, dunes look like fresh fallen snow. Been going to the dunes for 20 years now and used to pull my 18` toybox out to Boy Scout Camp or Eukalyptus Tree Camp. Talk about having no neighbors or crowds. But now I`m on the beach with the rest `cuz pulling out to the dunes just beat the heck outta truck and trailor.

If you do dig your own fire pit. Dig deep and cover it up before you leave. That way some else does not come up on it unexpected.

Unless it is still hot. If you bury a hot fire, all you do is surprise and burn somone who walks on it. If hot, leave open, otherwise, make sure it is waterlogged prior to burying it.
