Which year/model is the Trailblazer? We pulled with an Envoy the first year and I thought the towing capacity was higher than the 5600 you said above. Either way, IMO, you can safely tow any of the hybrids out there so long as you don't load 2500#s of "stuff" in it. Are you going to win any races, be able to enter the freeway fast, or get to the top of the hill without the TB knowing... probably not. Move up on the TV later like everyone else, but don't settle for a different trailer because of it right now. There are quite a few of us around here that started with an Explorer/Envoy/similar and eventually moved up to something bigger.

The space differences between 19 and 21 feet are surprising and the 23 footers are even bigger. If you can tow a 21SS you can tow a 23SS or 23B (Roo or Jayco) easily.

Dry weight is fantasy and is a guess -- the trailer is not weighed in this configuration which is before the "accessories" like the AC, spare tire, etc. go on the trailer. It's only purpose seems to be for dealers to sell you a trailer too heavy to tow.

Dry weight does not equal unloaded weight (UVW) but if you add about 350 pounds to dry you'll get a good unloaded weight.

Unloaded weight is on the sticker on the back of the door under the sink. The trailers are weighed at the end of the assembly line.

None of this has anything to do with the Gross Vehivce Weight Rating. This Rating is the maximum permissable weight of the trailer. The range between the UVW and GVWR is the cargo carrying capacity (CCC) of the trailer.

An earlier 21SS is gonna have a UVW of 3900 pounds before you put propane and water on it and a GVWR (remember the R is rating) of about 4700 pounds. There's a 800 pound gap but water and propane will use much of it. What it actually weighs depends on what you put in it.

For trailers where the GVWR and UVW are close it's safe to assume the trailer will be at or pushing GVWR. However, with the advent of 3000 pound rated axles (vs 2200 pound rated axles) on the Forest River trailers the GVWR is way more than you'll be able to cram on board unless you have a cord of firewood inside. A 2009 21SS won't weigh 6400 pounds unless you try very hard.

I use the 1000 Pound Rule that demands 1000 pounds more maximum towing capacity than the trailer really weighs. This allows for passengers, dogs, and some cargo in the tow vehicle. Assuming the trailer weighs 4800 pounds I really want 5800 pounds capacity but did tow my 23SS for two seasons with a 5500 pound rated Explorer. She wasn't happy.

I really want a ton extra capacity and used that "rule" when I replaced the Explorer with an Expedition for towing duties. 9000 pound capacity for a nearly 5000 pound trailer is a nice tow. Overkill rarely fails.

Our 2009 Starcraft 21SS0 weighed 4050 as shipped from the factory including all appliances and (2)full 30gal propane tanks.
After we loaded it for camping it now weighs 4820 which is just below the 5000 GVWR.
