Boy who said racing is a paid sport ,we race on the LSR (land speed record) and gee the money we spent sure wish there was money invoved. As strange as it sounds they have a race for us there in N.C. and this year will be going .Have open trailer but carry a break away switch for the breaks ,sure would have a hard time living with myself if it broke away and killed someone .Called N.C DOT defore this post and was told with letter that I am legal pulling our rig and trailer with a combined distance of 58'If I want to go fast all need to do is unload car and there not many cars on the road can keep up.
these are my facts and staying with them Thanks

Huh, good to know... our Tradewinds GVWR is 350 lb over that 26,000 lb limit. I guess we'd best hie ourselves down to the DMV for a Class B.

Yes there are bonehead troopers/officers, just like there are marginal employees in any profession. However, after 31 years of pulling dead people out of cars/trucks/and yes motor homes I can attest that there are valid reasons for strict law enforcement. Most of us try to "do the right thing" most of time. Yet there are those who have to be saved them from themselves.

Go to the Feds website and look at the FAQ page, where that one question is asked and answered.

I too live in the great state of NC. The job I have requires me to travel a distance of 14 counties, and maintain 41 locations, handling all maintenance problems from ac issues to electricial repair. I am on call 24/7/365 and belive me I know all about the "good ole boy" system we have here in NC. Several years ago I got a speeding ticket for 74 in a 55. I was on a lonley back country road, no cars in sight, and yes I was guilty. By the time I saw the trooper it was too late. I went to the county seat where I got the ticket, talked to the D.A. and got it reduced to "improper equipment". Cost me 125 bucks and I was on my way. Never showed up on my driving record so no harm no foul. A couple of years later, I got another one, this time for a 70 in a 55, same deal, back road, no traffic, topped a hill and there he was. This time the D.A. in that particular county wasn't so happy to help me, so I hired a lawyer. Cost me 450 bucks but it "went away".
The last one I got, I was passing an 18 wheeler, on a downhill grade, and saw a car approaching at the top of the next hill. So, trying to think "safe" I sped up, and went around him so I could get back in my lane. Trooper got me for 87 in a 55 this time. This one cost me 760 bucks. All this to make a two points, first, I don't speed anymore, it costs too much money. And second, If you have enough money in NC the "good ole boy" system works.
Kinda sad huh?

I have friend that is a Dot officer for NC. He told me its considered an Rv if it has sleeping qtrs and a bathroom and is exempt. But my farm equip trailer is rated to haul 10400lbs and I need a Class A license to pull it. No restrictions if its hauling farm products Corn, hay etc. I have to have a tag weigh rated for truck, trailer farm tractor and trailer other wise they don't care what my camper weighs. Horse, car trailers all require a class A if the sticker says it can haul more than 10,oolbs Doesn't matter if you are empty. There are other requirments like brakes, lights, safety chains crossed and breakaway cable.
