Heading to the lake a few weeks ago, and arriving after dark I decided to slide my hitch back "just in case" @ the ranger station. My brake controller was getting flaky (have replaced with a prodigy) but I thought it had slid and locked. WRONG! As I started up a steep hill, BAM! My daughter jumped and said "what was that"? Everyone around was coming out of their RVs to see what that wreck was. I knew so I just kept going to the site. Something else to add to my double check list! Have inspected hitch and it appears to be OK.

That is one reason I went to the Super Glide. I kept having problems with the manual slides. They just didn't alwyas slide as they should.

I wish I had - so I struggle with the manual slider.

We've only had a fiver for 5 mos, and still have a lot to learn. Last trip to lake I tried to slide hitch back on a small forward decline. Prodigy held fiver, but when I would get out to lock in, it would slide back to the front. After 3 attempts I got DW to come and lock it in. Live and learn I guess.

You know, I for one am sick of every discussion about a slider that the SuperGlide fan club has to show up to tell everyone that they should have bought one. Yes, we all know it is out there. Yes, we all know what it does. Yes, we all know you love it. Just add it to your sig and quit threadcrapping at every opportunity.
I can tell you that I will get out and pull a lever and learn to pay attention when turning for many, many years before paying thousands to not have to. I suspect I am not the only one based on the number of people who use sliders. It's a personal choice.
There is nothing wrong with choosing to use a slider and I don't think that telling everyone that has a question about them to spend thousands to replace their perfectly functional hitch is a reasonable answer to their questions unless they are asking about replacing their hitch. It's like telling every SuperGlide owner to replace their truck with a long bed every time they have a question about their hitch, it's just obnoxious.
As for the OPs situation, I think that taking a little bit more care when you first slide it to make sure it's locked in will avoid that situation. You should be able to just glance over your shoulder and know if it's slid and locked it by the position of the lever.

To the OP, I don't think this is all that unusual. Have seen and heard it happen a few times. Have seen the trailer roll back (or forward in one case) when the driver released the slider handle without holding the brakes or chocking the trailer on a nearly flat surface. Can really be very dangerous to property or personal injury. Part of the learning curve, I guess.

Ya went ahead and did it agqain, you used the S (superglide) word.
Really the only way one of those to work to the max is if you put it in a dually with a long bed.
I just can't wait until they come out with a super duper glide and all the regular glicers go to the scrap yard.
I will still be running my short bed with a no glider.

Superglide? Did someone say Superglide? Is this where I am suppose to jump in and highjack the tread? I think someone woke up on the wrong side of the campground. To the OP its like anything else with these rigs you have to be careful and check everything twice before moving because when you think you have it all under control they will show you up in a minute. Happy camping!

I thought so too, but it was dark and only my 13 yr old daughter was with me. (wife & son following up bringing up boat) I "thought" I felt it slide and got out and moved the handle forward and thought it was locked in, but no. Had a TT before and this is our first fiver but we learn something every trip and take notes. I'm sure we still got more to learn.
