The Camping World in Northern Virginia which is a suburb of Washington DC has closed. The closest Camping World is now about 60 miles to the west in Winchester, Va. For a camping and RV supply store we are left with some RV dealers who have stores, although not quite as good as Camping World. Why this Camping World closed is anybody's guess. Of course the current RV business is the number one reason and the high cost of floor space here is probably the other main reason.

This was posted with an explanation in the General Forum. They were leasing the space from Reines.

Old ones close, new ones open up. Like the sands on the seashore, things are always changing! Evidently that store wasn't profitable enough!

Well one good thing is... the new store in Winchester, Va is very well managed. I have experienced first hand the excellent customer service, supply and maintenance at this store; it is GREAT A+++! George is the Service Manager there and he will bend over backwards to make you happy! Rob was also very helpful as well. I am very pleased with the location ....right off the interstate!

I called Reines and asked them about the closure. They intend to open up their own camping store in that space but not until mid to late September.

I think many of the camping world stores that share space with dealerships are closing up.

Never found a price I couldn't beat somewhere else. Even as a member I did not find them to be price competitive although they did have broad selection of products.

I was in there 2 weeks before they closed. I was told the following...the Winchester store took a large part of their business when it opened. A lot of the Manasses store's business was from Canadians and people using the 81 and the 66 on their way south. Now with the Winchester store it is easier to stop at Winchester and then continue south via the 81 to 77 to the 95. Also this store was replaced with a new one that is located at the junction of the 81 and the 77

They opened an actual Camping World (not shared with an independent dealership) in Roanoke -- I believe this has something to do with it, combined with Winchester. Great store by the way - we went to the grand opening.

I find it hard to believe that they actually need two stores on I-81 in VA? would have made more sense to me to put one south of DC on I-95.
