I heard on the television a few weeks ago how different companies are beginning to re-package their merchandise. They are putting smaller quantities in the same package sizes and charging the same amount. If you're not paying attention to the ounces, pounds, etc, you're actually paying a very high percentage more now.
I really started noticing this on various candies, chips, and some soft drinks (Those little cans cost quite a bit for no more than your getting, and some put only 10 in the package instead of 12).
I just bought a bag of potato chips (I'll leave it unnamed). It use to sell for $1.00. The bag is now about 50% bigger and the price is now $1.29. But guess what? The ounces INSIDE are the same!
Illusion? Perception? Yes! Are WE getting a good deal ... NO!
I know prices of everything is going up. But I think this is a pretty sneaky. Like everything else, give it a year, and everyone will forget what $1.00 use to buy and no one will be the wiser!
Buyer Beware! Check the quantity and weights and don't let the pretty package fool you.
Comments? Go ahead! (keep it clean and civil though)

Glad you mentioned this....My son is a Little Debbie nut... loves the brownies. I picked up the same box I always get at the store two weeks ago and contents seemed to move around inside the box. Picked up other boxes.. the same. Got home and opened it up and there is one pack (two brownies) less in the same size box that we have always been buying. One way to pass along a price increase.

Just bought a pack of Dial Gold soap for the MH, which is the normal brand I use. Found that instead of the normal bar shape, it has now been scooped out in the middle of the top and bottom, less soap more money. The main problem is that it is now impossible to hold while showering, and with the small shwers in RV's it is a big PIA. Time to find another brand.

I always watched every single 100-dollar bill.
Today, I watch every 5-dollar bill.
Soon, I will start watching every one-dollar bill.

We don't buy very many packaged foods but I have noticed the smaller contents. Realize, too, that the packaging can sometimes cost more than the product it holds. Especially if the printing is fancy.
I think most of us have been pretty free with our funds until lately and now are taking a hard look at everything we buy. And that's good, IMHO.

This has been going on for a long time. For those of us into the "Elixir of Life" remember when you used to buy a pound of coffee not 13 ounces?

You aren't imagining the trend to "the incredible shrinking food" syndrom! McDonalds stopped putting 2 slices of cheese on their 99 cent double cheese burger! "Orange juice giant Tropicana also squeezed its container size recently. A 96-ounce plastic jug of OJ shrank to 89 ounces. The suggested retail price remains $4.99!"
NY Daily News
This may explain why this downsizing is happening, and it's not all the food manufacturers fault!
