We have been using a WalMart prepared package for our hummies; however, our local Wally World has been out for several days. I have prepared a solution of four parts water to one part sugar and that has been keeping the couple of dozen hummies satisfied. Will red food coloring do any harm to the birds? I know it's not necessary to attract them, but I can't how full our back yard feeders are. Thinking of adding food coloring to alleviate that problem.
Thanks.

We never use the red food coloring - the red color of the feeder always does the job it's self

DW does one sugar to three waters and they do a royal battle over it. You'll get dive bombed by them while putting it up. We have about eight here and the females (as usual) are more vicious then the red throated males. They eat (drink) a little more than a quart per week.

We use 4:1 ratio... Parents do as well. They have about 40-50 birds attacking their 5 feeders every day. It's almost scarey to walk near the feeders. Then then the wasps love it too.
