When my laptop is updating (yellow Security Shield in the taskbar) I can't open it to see the progress of the update like I can on the Desktop.
The laptop has Windows XP. (so does the Desktop).
Any thoughts on how I can open this.
Thanks,
Ken

Are you sure it isn't in the mode of "Downloading Updates"? Does it actually say "Updates are Installing" or "Updates are ready to install".

Maybe it you change your update settings (Start->Right mouse on My Computer->Left Mouse on Properties in the menu->Click on automatic Updates Tab) to "Download updates for me but let me choose when to install" it will work as you expect.

Thank you.
It lets me know Updates are ready to Install and I click on install.
After that I seem to have no control of it. Can't see progres at all.

A lot of Windows updates don't actually install until you shut your computer down.
Once you have agreed to install the updates, next time you turn the machine off you will see "Installing 1 of 12 updates" or similar and a message telling you the computer will shut down when it's finished.

That appears to be what is happening. It does start updating after I turn the laptop back on.
Thanks for assist. Guess I will stop worring about it as it seems to know what it is doing!!
