Gee, recently while traveling home we decided to phone one of the Florida State Parks and stop instead of continuing on and arriving home in the middle of the night. They were very accommodating and reserved a spot for us as we arrived after closing. The next morning, I went to check out and all was well.
After paying with my debit card, I got a receipt and there was a bed tax listed. Now it was only $0.48 cents for the one night, but gee, that was my bed that they are taxing and I thought I had already paid tax on it when I purchased it.
I have always used RA for reserving and paying for sites in the FL State Parks. Never had I noticed any bed tax. I wonder if I can somehow deduct that from my income taxes?
Yes, it's a slow day in the office with the storm here. So far, tons of rain and windy. Ugly day....

Taxing authorities have figured out some pretty interesting ways to get money from travelers. A lot of local government programs are paid for by the traveling public thorugh ingenious taxes.

All Florida counties levy a tourist tax above the local sales tax. It is earmarked for a tourist development fund run by your counties Tourist Development Council. It has to be spent on drawing more tourist to your county and/or state, if you can believe that. Advertising, capital improvements, etc. It is often 2% but I think some counties are higher.
It is often called a bed tax but I don't remember ever seeing it called that in print anywhere. We owned an oceanfront motel for ten years in Florida so know a little about it. Attended several TDC meetings begging for our Chamber.

People like to pay taxes. If they didn't they would quit voting for the ones that are responsible. The problem is the people that are sick of it are in the minority.

It does not show up on Granite Hill or Gettysburg CG receipts. Could just be the way they state it or include it on the receipt. I will check our receipts from Country Acres CG in Lancaster.

I'll bet your guests at the motel didn't bring their own beds.
To OP - welcome to FL! Leading the world in junk fees even CA hasn't thought of yet.
(Just stay home and relax. It really wasn't all that bad, and you're catching the same legs we got here. I'm just watching to see which way the eye wants to roll, and hoping everybody over on the west side is doing ok, too. That thing's been hanging there since last night.

I'll have to agree with you on that one. People get tired of it and express it when talking to someone else about "their" representative, and even talk about how sorry their own is, until it's time to vote and then that person often says to him/herself, "Ole Joe/Jane Blow hasn't done too bad; may as well keep him/her in another term". Then they vote the incumbents back in and complain for, yet, another term. The cycle never seems to end.
