In the county we live in we have to pay a tax (for lack of a better term) on the rainwater that falls on our property. It's a pre-determined amount based on several factors that would prevent the water from soaking into the ground, making it a "water run-off" fee, or some such non-sense, such as roof size and asphalt/concrete size. The problem is, we have been in a very critical drought condition here for the past couple of years, and yep, you guessed it, we have to pay the same amount anyway, whether any water falls to run off or not. Next on the agenda, I assume, will be a tax on the amount of sunshine we get on our property. That would take care of the drought situation. Rain falls, you pay. No rain, not a problem, you simply pay for the sunshine. It just doesn't get any better than this!!!

Folks don't like taxes, but they want services. Folks like to complain about impervious surface tax, but when rain falls they sure will be quick to complain if the water puddles on their property.
People hate paying tax for mosquito control, but when they get ready for a BBQ they sure call for the mosquito control truck to run through the neighborhood.
Florida bed tax is used to promote tourism. Florida is pretty good at getting tourists to pay for things. Means I don't have to. I kinda like that.
Don't take your organs to heaven. Heaven knows we need them here.

A tax is a tax is a tax is a tax. It doesn't matter what you call it, it is still just a tax. The only question remaining is who is going to pay it and how much! Some of us could get along better without it and the so called service it provides.

I read a couple of years ago half of what we make goes to various taxes and fees levied by the government. I understand the need for taxation but considering what I do with my half of my income I am not too sure I am getting my money's worth for the other half. Especially when I see things like my property value going down but my property tax going up 'because we need the money'???

The pillow tax in Gettysburg PA is a county tax of 3%. If you Google Gettysburg pillow tax you'll find it.
If you want to see a real tax scam try renting a car and look at the various taxes and additional fees that can jack a $33/day rental fee to over $50/day

This must be something new. I have stayed in many a Florida State Parks and have never seen such a tax. In fact, as a florida residence and a senior citizen the Florida parks are very reasonable.

There are only two counties in Wyoming that don't have a bed tax, Campbell and Jackson. Campbell, where I live, had a 2% tax until two years ago when the powers that be tried to make it a 3% tax, and the voters turned it down. Today we'll be voting on the 2% tax again, and it'll likely pass. It covers hotel rooms and campsites. As others have said, it's used for tourism promotion including staffing for the tourist "information" booth, billboard and magazine advertising, etc.
I'll be voting for it. We welcome tourists, but they do contribute to traffic congestion and use public utilities, parks, etc.; a dollar or two in extra taxes isn't too much to ask in exchange, imho. Sales and bed tax combined would be 7.25%. Buy some groceries (no sales tax) and some gas or diesel fuel (cheapest Flying J in the nation) and you'll quickly get your bed tax back.
