Just looked at my Topsail reservation for next year. Yep, a 4% "local option tax," and a 7% "Sales Tax!"

Yet, if you asked the local politicians if they were in favor of raising taxes, the answer would be NO! These are fees, not taxes!

On the national level, we've gone from "Tax and Spend" to "Borrow and Spend" to "Increase the Fees.!

Any way you cut it = they're taxes!

Like baseball? All the areas - county/cities that host Cactus league spring training teams in AZ have such a 'bed tax' by various names. It is dedicated to building/supporting all the baseball stadiums and to nail the visirors.Tucson started it# when they built the new facility for the White Sox and Diamondbacks and will (hopefully) upgrade the Rockies home field. That tax is over and above the entertainment tax that is added to every ticket to the games.
You want services/facilities - you pay for them - simple as that.

The pillow tax in Gettysburg PA is a county tax of 3%. If you Google Gettysburg pillow tax you'll find it.

If you want to see a real tax scam try renting a car and look at the various taxes and additional fees that can jack a $33/day rental fee to over $50/day

Thank you for 'splaining that

Gee, twenty something replys.

Oh well, we will pay the tax and continue going. I remember years ago when I lived in Georgia. Gov. Miller then vowed not to raise any taxes. Then the "state fees" went through the roof.

Thanks everyone, really woke up a dreary afternoon.

Folks don't like taxes, but they want services. Folks like to complain about impervious surface tax, but when rain falls they sure will be quick to complain if the water puddles on their property.

People hate paying tax for mosquito control, but when they get ready for a BBQ they sure call for the mosquito control truck to run through the neighborhood.

Florida bed tax is used to promote tourism. Florida is pretty good at getting tourists to pay for things. Means I don't have to. I kinda like that.
Hello up there-Carrabelle here. Franklin County approved a "bed tax" a couple of years ago, if I wasn't a fulltimer I'd not have to pay it. Since I rent my space, I don't mind paying an extra bit of tax, I'm not paying school tax after all...and the taxes here are way cheaper than Georgia's. Lived there 35 years, ad valorem taxes very year on your vehicles. Water runoff taxes,-in Georgia they tax everything!

Most counties in Florida have storm water assessments on property. Same deal, different name.

Don't take your organs to heaven. Heaven knows we need them here.

Let the visitors and tourists carry the tax burden, so the loacal population won't revolt. I stayed in a Holiday Inn Express the other night in western Ohio; state room tax 7%, county room tax 3%, and city room tax 3%.

I'll have to agree with you on that one. People get tired of it and express it when talking to someone else about "their" representative, and even talk about how sorry their own is, until it's time to vote and then that person often says to him/herself, "Ole Joe/Jane Blow hasn't done too bad; may as well keep him/her in another term". Then they vote the incumbents back in and complain for, yet, another term. The cycle never seems to end.

Yup, I feel your pain!

In the county we live in we have to pay a tax (for lack of a better term) on the rainwater that falls on our property. It's a pre-determined amount based on several factors that would prevent the water from soaking into the ground, making it a "water run-off" fee, or some such non-sense, such as roof size and asphalt/concrete size. The problem is, we have been in a very critical drought condition here for the past couple of years, and yep, you guessed it, we have to pay the same amount anyway, whether any water falls to run off or not. Next on the agenda, I assume, will be a tax on the amount of sunshine we get on our property. That would take care of the drought situation. Rain falls, you pay. No rain, not a problem, you simply pay for the sunshine. It just doesn't get any better than this!!!

Why do you put up with this CRAPPOLA?
