Well, I finally got the courage to. After reading 4hpycmprs's thread and looking at his webshots 100x (tytyty Mark), I somehow convinced myself this was a good idea - believe me that wasn't easy with my wife telling me what a moron I was for thinking of doing this. However, big surprise, she's happy with the final result(:

For now: hammock, 4 chairs, sand toys, and beach umbrella all call the slide storage their new home

a great place for our skewers and pie irons (you'll need a tetnis shot before using those!)

man, i can't get brave enough yet!
but the more of us 23SS owners who do this, the more i'll have to face my fears!
i'm still confused as to what has to be moved, like pipes, lines, etc, to make room for the box.

I am so impressed by your guts and also by your pictures. They make you feel like you were right there at the time cutting along with you. You are one brave man and your wife is one brave woman for allowing you to use that saw!!!! Have fun packing in your new compartment.

Just make sure you set aside a nice sunny day for it just in case it takes a bit longer than expected(:

Dan, if it helps, I'm one of the least handy guys you'll meet and I found the project fairly easy but time consuming. My BIL and family were over swimming, so I was able to get an extra set of eyes and ideas which made me feel a bit better(:

We couldn't find the camera (love those kids) before I boxed mine in, but it looks almost identical to Mark's. Imagine if you're standing at the new hole looking in - the plumbing (before mod) runs from the jtrap towards the outside wall, makes a 90 turn towards the bathroom, goes 2 feet, makes a 90 towards the stove, goes 2 feet, makes a 90 toward the bathroom again. It basically makes a U and I cut the U off. To reconnect, I turned the jtrap and pipe towards the stove and I had to buy 3 pieces of ABS plumbing (an RV dealer): a T, and 2 90 degree elbows. The T is for the vent thingy to stick out the top and the 2 90s go down and reconnect.

I had to move the red and blue water lines over but that didn't require any cutting - I think there was one screw holding them to the wall with a clip. My gas line for the stove was a bit long, but again no cutting as I was able to gently push it out of the way. I did cut away part of the divider that is between the under sink storage and the stove area with a razor blade.

When you're doing it, just make sure you put the stove and drawers back in before screwing or glueing anything just to be sure everything will fit again.

I should also mention to make sure the HTT is level before tracing the door out. In our excitement to get started, we almost forgot to do so -- that wouldn't have ended well(:

Great Job Derek! That's nice looking work. I am wondering exactly where the storage is located inside. In the 3rd photo, are we looking at the spot for the range, refrigerator, or ??? I like the idea you had to mount clips on the wall for the skewers and irons. Good job.

Thanks Odie and Jim!

Here's a shot from the inside - the storage compartment is under the counter behind the stove and sink.

It looks great! One question? On my rig the doors open up not down, did you install the door upside down? would it leak this way?

Thanks(: My other storage door also opens up - I did this one upside down just so I don't have to use a clip to hold it open. It has an inner seal and it closes tight with the 2 knobs and lock so it should be good, but only time will tell.
