Around here, in back country campgrounds where there are vault toilets and no dump station, it is often forbidden to dump your waste water into the vaults. I have a "blue tote", but I never take it with me.

I use a 25 gallon,I will go bigger when I have to replace. I tow it to dump with my toad.I sometimes have to do 3 trips, but thats okay, once its done I have 4 days or so.If its just the 2 of you you would be fine with something smaller.

Try not to have enough black water to require more than one trip. To push that knife valve with black water "stuff" flowing can lead to a leaky valve.

I read somewhere, I think it may have been a Florida State Park, but the portable tanks could only be used for grey water, not black. You may want to check on that.

there are just 2 of us and we can use the black tank for at least 2 weeks before we'd come close to filling it up.(25gall. black tank)
we use our blue tote tank strictly for gray water, not black water.
if 2 of you are filling the black tank up that fast, you must be doing something wrong.

They aren't neccesarily doing things wrong. I've read where some campers have the bathroom sink (or something)drain into the black tank to combat the issue of too little water and clogging.

With 3 in our group, we can get about 5 days out of the black thank.

We use the blue tote tank (32 gal.) for both gray and black tank.I always drain the black tank first and drain a little gray at the end to wash out drain hoses and then make second trip with gray only to wash out tote tank.

Our grey and black tank capacities are each 33g, so we bought a 22 gal. blue tote. It has the handle that slips over the hitch ball on the truck. We are glad to have it, as with three in the family - we fill the grey tank to 2/3 in one day. Hubby just made it part of his routine to empty grey into the tote and tow it to the dump station each evening or early morning. You won't want to try and pull it over there by hand - as the thing weighs a TON when full. We also learned to back the truck as close as possible to the tote before hitching it - as hubby was down in his back for a week after lugging the thing to and from the hitch on first few uses. We can go 5 days before needing to dump black tank, so we have only used the tote for this one time. It went fine. Just be sure you calculte how many gallons is 2/3, etc. so that you can COMPLETELY empty black tank into blue. You don't want to shut the black valve until it's empty.

Happy Camping!

I think a lot of people flush WAY too long.

Someone posted once that they flushed 10 seconds for every pee and 20 seconds for poops. That's a LOT of water.

I do more like 2 seconds and 5 seconds.

Yes, the more water the better when you dump, but that water can be added right before you dump. No need for marathon flushes.

Be sure to check regulations. As a previous poster stated, it is illegal to use the tank for black water in Florida. Only grey water may be switched into the tank and dumped.
