Have a 460 Ford (carb) engine,on last trip changed (2) plugs gap closed, checking engine found another bad plug, engine is running hot.Running with Autolite #25,I did have Champion #RV15YC4 in before. Is the Chmpion plug a better heat range plug?

Replace All 8 Plugs with the Original Equipment Specified Plugs and New OEM Plug Wires! Have the Plugs Gapped to OEM Specs as well! This will get You back to square one and from My experience with this Engine and Chassis It will Run the Best! I Had High Performance Plug Wires and some Expensive Platinum Plugs Installed a few Years ago. The Engine Ran Great at the beginning , but quickly turned into a Slug with Misfires and Lack of Power! A Mechanic Shop in Yuma Put All OEM Stuff back on and She has run perfect ever since!

Your caps key is sticking, makes it hard to read.

NGK recommends a plug in their UG4 series, (they make 3) gap is .044

SOunds like you are running the wrong heat range plug if they are getting hot enough to close, haven't seen that in a long time and it takes a lot of heat to do so.

I would also check timing. Too much advance can cause the same heating issue. IIRC there were some exhaust manifold issues back about that time? can't remember for sure.

best of luck

Does your MH have a Kohler generator?

The RV15YC plugs are spec'd for the Kohler KT17 engine used in the 4.5CKM generators...

Maybe someone used some spares for the gen in the 460...

MELM.
I have a Honda Gen,I don't think they would have put(8)plugs in?
The mech said the champion makes a better plug, autolite #25 is the one sold over the counter for this engine?.Thanks I will keep looking also might change to a colder thermostat.

The closed plugs are telling you that you have a tuning problem with your engine.Probably close to detonation.Verify timing is within specs at operating speeds (not just at idle speed). The engine running hot is also a clue. Also probably a good time to do a fuel system clean and filter change. If you do not address the root problem, your engine will be damaged and the plugs are not the cure. Chuck.

I would check, better, replace the plug wires with high temperature ones.
Suggest using the Champion truck plugs as they are designed for higher combustion chamber temperatures that surround a MH engine compartment.
Have you checked the mechanical advance in the distributor, if equiped?

Funny, I was thinking the same thing when I read the RV15YC. Just doesn't add up does it.

Ditto all of the above about NGK's and going back to OEM specs.
