I once again spoke with my parents today about purchasing their 1994 Skamper PUP. I posted in this forum last Nov about wanting to buy it. It is in fantastic shape. They bought it new in 1995 and it has always been kept indoors, and used on average of one time per year. They have been thinking about selling it because of such little use. Their main concern is having a camper to stay in when my entire family camps on the Mississippi in October of every year. I told them they could stay with me in my new, (their old) PUP every year. It is just me that goes since my DW doesn't enjoy camping as much anymore.
We struck up a deal, and I take possession in October while camping with them!! I am very excited to get such a nice PUP and a great "Parents" price!
I will be installing an A/C unit in the spring. Does anyone have any experience with installing an A/C unit? What brand is the best for the money? I had a Coleman on my 1998 24' rig I once owned. It still works well as my brother now owns that trailer.

Congratulations on your "new" , "old' popup! One big plus is that you are well acquainted with the trailer, and you know the condition it is in. And you get to keep it "all in the family"!
Our last popup was not equipped with factory A/C, but it was equipped with the "A/C prep" package (added bracing in the roof), so the first overtime check I brought home after we bought it, I had a Dometic A/C installed, because the dealer handled Dometic units. The conversion to A/C required a 30-amp cord to be installed in the trailer (it was factory equipped with 20-amp). My FIL brought it in one morning, and picked it up that afternoon. We left on a 2-week vacation 2 days later (we cut it close!).
I've never installed an A/C, but I've watched it done. If I weren't disabled now, I could install one myself, but that's something I can't tackle now. If you have a 14" X 14" vent in the popup, you've got half the job done already. You'll have to install a receptacle to plug the A/C into, and run a cord (and fasten it to the ceiling) from the A/C unit to the receptacle. On our Starcraft, they used a hole saw to cut a 1 1/4" hole through the rear of the dinette seat to pass the cord through to the receptacle that they installed behind the converter in the storage area under the dinette seat.
The dealer that installed the popup A/C sold Dometic units. And all the TTs we have had since, including our Trailmanor, had Dometic A/C units. On our '02 Aerolite, the Dometic A/C failed during the walk-thru at the dealer's lot. On our '04 Aerolite, the Dometic A/C failed after being used about 5 times. I had absolutely no problem getting them replaced, and neither one ever gave any trouble again (the dealer said that the A/C in the '04 was built when they had a whole string of compressors which had faulty wiring, and once discovered, they changed the design. He'd already changed out several when mine bit the dust). That could be the case. The Dometic A/C in our '06 Dutchmen Tundra has had no problems, SO FAR (my fingers are crossed; hard to type that way .)
I have nothing against Coleman A/Cs. It's just that the way things have worked out, I have no experience with them. But I see them on RVs all the time.
Enjoy that Skamper camper!

Your camper was made by Areo Corp then owned by Thor. The current builder is Skamper by Aero (Aero Coach/Fold Down Division) 574-534-1224
You should contact them to find out if the roof and lift system can accept an air conditioner.
If the camper has a 30 amp shore power connection then all you'll need is a drop to the 20 amp breaker in the converter or to a 20 amp outlet if the camper has one.
If the shore power is 15 amp, then figure running a drop directly from the AC to the shore power.
We often did this on 15 amp campers. You use a 30 to 15 amp dogbone to plug in the AC to the 30 amp outlet; and the regular outlet for the camper.

Circuit City currently has an amcor portable 8k btu air conditioner at an amazing price of $139 if you want to sacrifice a little floor space instead of a roof installation.
