Ok.
I'm finally tired enough of the BS from whatever moron wrote the code that has infected my machine.
I've been getting these full-screen pop-up windows for the last couple of days now. Seems about every four minutes or so ANOTHER add for some useless******is showing itself on my screen.
I've checked everything I know to check: pop-up blocker, ran AGV virus scan, Webroot Spy Sweeper, checked control panel settings, all to no avail.
Can someone PLEASE help me figure this out (and get rid of it) before I decide to throw my PC in the pool?????

Have you tried a system restore to a previous date under "Performance and Maintenance"

Well the problem is that one of the easiest way to get this problem is from clicking on an ad in the first place. Usually it is something like this: you see something on the screen that says your computer is running slow, click here to speed it up. Another one is to put something like a weather program that shows the weather every 15 minutes or so. A third is some game you may have bought that installs some extra stuff. If it is caused by some of the above, it might not be considered malware as you indicated you wanted part of the package. That means that the malware programs won't do anything about it. Unless you can pinpoint when they started happening and what you might have done at that time it can take quite a time to find it.
I would try something like Spybot Search and destroy as a starter as that will sometime find these types of programs. A-squared is another one. I have found that each of the malware programs find things that others don't find. Lots of luck.

You have the equivalent of a virus infection. This thing is difficult to eliminate - It will have hidden an installer in a protected directory - check the sysvol directory, which you will probably have to alter the security on to be able to open it - the reinstalls it if you find and delete the offending program. Once you find the reinstaller and kill it, you can start searching the registry for the entries that launch it. Last time I removed one from my brother's computers it took the better part of a day. Things like ZoneAlarm and hijackthis can help identify the culprit but the presumption is that you are comfortable noodling with them.

Thanks for the replys. I'm in the process of downloading Spybot S&D and A Squared right now. We'll see what happens and I'll post the results.

The best thing to do is wipe and reload. Then you will be SURE you have gotten it and anything else that might not be showing signs that it is there. If your computer came with a restore disk. Backup your files and boot from that cd to wipe and reload the OS. Your machine will run like new again.
Just DON'T forget to back your files up before you do it.

it helps with slow starting, I use spy bot as well and AVG and they seem to have worked Codestuff is really nice it allows you to easily choose which programs will start. Make boot up much faster.

Your problem is you are infected with (Adware Virus) If you know what to look for you can find it,but if not here is what you need to do. First remove the spyware nproigram you have is is a port opener. Like opening the door for your cat to come in sure enough a fly will follow! Then Download AD-Aware by Lava Soft, http://www.lavasoft.com/
there is a free version but the AdAware plus is better Also download Avast home version its not as big as AVG but works better.
I have been installing both programs on my customers PC's and laptops for 8 years and know one has reported any problems. By the way I am a IT graduate for computers. doing system restore will only work until you connet to the internet, then you will have the sme problems. once you download AdAware and avast and have them both registerd. You must disable your internet conection so the programs can find the problems. Once they are found and deleted then reconnect to the internet and download from (Ashampoo) Win Optimiser (free for 30-45 days), this program will keep your system clean of errors and unwanted cookies and internet traces. If you decide to purchase Win Optimiser wait untill the last week of testing they will offer the program to you for yp to 45% off!
