DW and I were planning our fall vacation, when my Aunt and Uncle told us that they would be able to go with us. One place that they suggested that we go was to the Ohio Amish Country near Dover, OH. We usually stay at State Parks, but I could not find any in the area. Does anyone have any suggestions of where to stay and what to see?

We will also be checking in RVparkreviews.com. (just thought I would throw that in there before someone else made the suggestion)

Thanks

Well, if you want to go a little farther north, Geneva on the Lake state park, NE of Cleveland is a really nice park. Geneva, Ohio is a REALLY interesting town, kind of a combination of Gatlinburg, TN, and the movie "Wild Hogs", only on a smaller scale.

To get there, you'll drive through miles of Amish territory. Beside, the State Park is right on Lake Erie, and has a pretty nice beach too.

Try Bayshore campgrounds in Andover Ohio. Bayshore is one of the best in NE Ohio and IN Amish country. We make it to Bayshore 4 to 5 times a year. It site on the shore of Pymatuning lake ( Great Bass and walleye Lake). We stop at all the Amish road side stand to load up on the Amish foods when in the area.

If you have time, a trip to Warther's Carvings in Dover, OH is memorable. You may also enjoy The Wilds near Cumberland, OH.

Lancaster County Pennsylvania is a great Amish destination if you are not committed to Ohio. Several campgrounds in the area.

Evergreen is by far the nicest Amish country campground in Ohio. Try it, you will not be disappointed.

Portage Lakes only has sites, no electric/water and only a pit latrine (no showers, even). Evergreen is a very nice park but looks more like a parking lot than a campground. If you are used to state parks you will hate it. The indoor pool and hot tub are nice for cooler weather camping if you have kids. Sites are literally on top of one another and even having a fire at night is tight. That is not to say we will never camp there, it just depends on if you are looking for a "resort" or nature.

There is camping at Atwood Lake, just a little east of Dover Atwood Lake, if Dover is your destination. In New Philadelphia there is a campground called Woods Tall Timber Lake which I have heard good thing about but have never been. There are also several campgrounds within a 30 minute drive (Scenic Hills, Baylor Beach, Evergreen, Amish Country Campsites). Scenic Hills is pretty nice, Baylor Beach is not bad but it is "dry", and I have never been to Amish Country.
