Pictured Rocks is a National Lakeshore not really a National Park. The whole area is very nice. I was there in July we stayed in a National Forest Campground about 20 miles South. I've never been to 12 mile beach but I will say everything up there is nice, clean, and well maintaned.

Hi amcclaran, I have spent many a wonderful night (and day) at Twelve Mile beach campground. It is simply a beautiful place and at this time of year, should have room to spare, that is after school starts! The water is warmest now and the scenery is lovely. If you are arriving from the Grand Marais side, remember to dump at the campground in G.M. $5.00 for non campers, but the only one I know of in the area. The road to Hurricane river campground from G.M. is now paved and from there West, it is good quality gravel. Don't miss the Grand Sable Dunes and if you are continuing West, Miners Castle and perhaps a tour boat trip to see the Pictured Rocks from the water would have to be on anyones list. You can pick up a tour boat in Munising Mi. This is also a very nice little town and there are campgrounds in the area too. (Bay Furnace comes to mind, but there are others). Hope you have a great time.
Funny, I am heading from Wisconsin to the Maritimes in a couple of weeks. Will be stopping in Manchester Center Vermont on my way!
Enjoy our beautiful Midwest! Bob

Retired with a great wife, a house in the country and a smile most of the time. Can it get any better than this?
YUP it can. A couple of Sea Kayaks just for fun!

Enjoy our beautiful Midwest! Bob Well, its a small world. We live in Landgrove, about a 20 minute drive from Manchester. If you havent been there before, get your credit cards ready, its a shoppers mecca. But also a beautiful little town. Best in the eve. after shoppers have gone home!! - as far as seeing the other sites near 12 mile beach, i'm afraid we dont have time this round. but thanks for the info. we are headed to Mellen, Wi. near Ashland to visit a daughter for 4-5 nites, then back to Vt.
