I've read rvparkreviews and I've read an earlier closed post on this forum. The raves are why I have a week reserved at this park. However, I have cousins who have lived in the area, and are concerned thus creating some doubt. I'd like information from someone who has been there in the past few months.

I will be traveling alone. Should I be concerned about the neighborhood getting to the park (will arrive during daylight)? Should I be any more concerned about being in this park than many others? I've been to Graceland, Beale St, etc. previously so this is a week to stay at the park to veg, clean and, most especially, enjoy the site overlooking the river.

Ladies, would you stay here alone? Guys, would you want your wife here alone?

Thanks for any advice!

There are two routes to take to enter the park. One takes you through a neighborhood that is a little run down and the other new road skirts that area and you shouldn't have any problem there. The park entrance takes you over a levee and down a rough road so I don't think outsiders would be joy riding there. We enjoy camping there, but only have stayed a couple days at a time.

My wife says she wouldn't be concerned staying there alone if she took the new road into the park and avoided the neighborhoods there.

We don't have any real information on how safe the neighborhoods are there. Locals should be able to tell you more about the area.

I stayed there overnight last year while moving to the South. I thought it was fine. You are arriving durint the day, the park is well set back off the road, and it's run with local management.

I'd let my wife stay there.

Anyway, I say go for it.

The area is mostly industrial, but once you're back down into the cg, its fine. Its pretty secluded and someone is always on site. I think you'd be absolutely fine there.

Check out my signature photolink. I have lots of pictures of this park and I would highly recommend it. The new road that comes right down from the interstate only takes 5 minutes to get to the campground and you would have zero problems with it. The neighborhood that people refer to is a bit rundown but it's not a war zone.

I spent two nights at Tom Sawyer and I did not think there were any locals at all in the campground, at least from what I could see. All of the trailer/motorhomes that were there were in good condition and the people that I talked with there were friendly and outgoing. Watching the barge and tugboat traffic on the river is outstanding.

There is a decent laudromat at the park, plenty of room for dogs to walk and the sites were all level. I thought it was a great place.

Was there 3 weeks ago, and liked it. You drive by a bad looking neighborhood but we saw nothing bad happening. I would stay there again.

We went for a overnight stay and stayed 3 days. It was great to back the 5er up next to the river to watch the tugboats and barges. Now the wife wants to be a cook on the barges and tugs. Just kidding.

Am there now and have been for 2 weeks. There really isn't a "neighborhood" that you drive through if you take their 'new' route - the one shown in the camping directories and online. Once you get off the freeway, you're by some comm'l businesses (truck stops) and once you're past the first signalized intersection (Broadway) you drive 2 miles on a feeder road towards an industrial area. On the easterly side of you is the levee - no buildings, no nothing and on the other side is railroad right of way which separates you from one area of seedy looking housing (I don't see people). There is only one street access cut across the tracks in that area (have never seen a vehicle on it). Towards the end of the 2 miles and just before the entry road to the park begins an area of petroleum processing companies. That's it. No people to speak of.

We do take the 'old way' to get groceries, visit the post office etc. and other than it being really bumpy, it's not that bad either. There is housing and it's old but there is some evidence even of some rehabbing being done. People appear to be minding their own business, not congregating in groups or other such activity, and don't appear to be the least bit interested in the fact that an 'outsider' is intruding in their neighborhoods - and 'no', I'm not nervous about my wife driving either route alone.

I've read far too many good things about this RV park to not stay there.

I think you have some pretty good reasoned responses here.

I am local and is my most favorite RV park. You can take exit 4 off I55 or exit 280 off I40 same road the interstates just splits. It is very easy short drive to RV park. Would recommend that you look at website "tomsawyerrvpark" and it has pictures and site maps of park. I like the older section better than the new fiver section, due to the shade trees and request the sites next to river. Large concrete pads where you are at a sharp angle and nobody is in front or rear of you. Wonderful view!!!!!!
