Another post here was about a Fun Mover he was looking at and got me curious about that brand. When I looked them up I saw that they are advertising that they have 26,000 pound GVWR chassis with 30,000 GCWR available for '09 models. This should give the Gulfstream Supernova some competition, which is always good for us, the consumer. They did not give any details beyond the weight rating but I am anxious to find out more.

I hear that the 26,000 GVWR would be a class 6 truck, and the engine would be either the gas 502" or diesel 7.8L inline 6 by Izusu. Both are great engines.

I don't really like that International in the SuperNova is using the kinda small 6L Ford V8. I would want something with a little more torque.

Fred.

It is about time the RV industry started using the class 6 Chevy chassis. That should have been the norm for the Super C's all along. As for the VT365 in the International chassis, don't confuse it with the Ford Powerstroke. International uses their own electronics and fuel system and they put 300 hp in the RV setup. It has more pulling power than I had with my C5500 Kodiak coach with the Duramax diesel probably because of the 2500MH Allison transmission. I have always been a Chevy fan but the International drives much better and handles exceptional as compared to the Kodiak. I do hope that the Chevy class 6 has a better front end package than their class 5. Mine was very loose and not at all fun to drive.

After months of speculation that Navistar (International) was going to buy GM medium truck business, this release came out today:

FOR RELEASE: 2008-08-20

CONTACTS

GM Statement Regarding Medium Duty Truck Business

Due to significant marketplace and economic changes, GM and Navistar have decided not to renew the memorandum of understanding to purchase GM's medium duty truck business, which has expired. GM will continue to run the medium duty business as it has in the past, including providing sales, service and marketing support to GM dealers for its medium duty trucks.

GM will continue to review strategic options for the business, including continued discussions with Navistar.

There are some things to understand about a move from a class 5 like the C-5500 to a class 6 like the C-6500 if you are comparing the current chassis.

The C-6500 and up are a much larger chassis. Park the two chassis side by side and the difference is obvious. Where the C-5500 has one step up to get in the cab the C-6500 requires two.

The engines are different - inline 6 cylinder in the C-6500. The transmission is also a heavier duty model.

Tires are 22.5 instead of the 19 inch on the C-5500. The fuel tanks are one or two saddle tanks vs the rear mounted inside the frame tanks on the C-5500.

And the price is about $20,000 more for just the cab and chassis.

Motorhomes using a class 6 or class 7 chassis have been available for several years. Most of the truck conversion motorhomes manufacturers have offered a Freightliner M2 chassis as one of their options.

Like the floor plan of the 36A on the kodiak, but from the specs it's still the 5 series. Has the 6.6 duramax listed. Still leaves me to question the towing capacity. The 6500 kodiak lists the cat or isuzu diesel as the optional motors, 8.1 gas is standard.
