windriderjr wrote: DW had much needed back surgery and went through a long recovery. We decided to do it in the summer because we didn't want her unstable in the snow and ice of winter. That kept us home for the past couple of months. My mother was also very ill and that kept us home.
Now DW is better than ever and mom is back home with dad and doing well. We are off to one of our favorite SPs next weekend (Labor Day). After that, I'm off to New York to play announcer at a kite festival. Then I'm taking the TT to Gettysburg for a week with the guys (no DW) at the biggest gathering of kite fanatics in the US, the American Kitefliers' Association Convention.
After that, we are going to the Crotched Mountain School during the Columbus Day weekend to provide sound and fun for the kids and camping for the rest of the long weekend. The school is a place the helps young people who have spinal injuries. It's the festival I look forward to the most every year.
There have been a few times when I went out to the TT and just sat in it this summer. Next year will be better and this season isn't over yet
I'm glad your DW and DM are doing better and you are going to be able to do some camping. A kite festival sounds like fun....I bet my hubby wouldn't mind a week alone camping with his buddies.

We had planned to do a weekend trip to our local CG on West Point Lake. Friday afternoon we decided to cancel when there were tornado warnings just east of Macon. It turned out to be the right choice. There was a wind advisory for part of the weekend, a tornado watch for part of today, and a good deal of rain(thank God because we need it desperately). We wouldn't have been able to do much of anything outside all weekend. We are planning to camp there for Labor Day.
Shannone, I know this summer has flown by. I don't know when MI schools start, but we've been in school for 2 and a half weeks now. GA starts to school early, too early.
As for the pools, after this rain I imagine mine will be too cold to use. I haven't checked the temperature, but it has probably dropped. I'm not getting any younger and I don't tolerate swimming in cold water as well as I did when I was younger.
I hope to get in a few more weekend camping trips to the local CG. We have plans to go to Pigeon Forge for fall break. For the first time in three years teachers have 2 days plus the weekend! We also hope to get to PF during the Christmas break.

We just dropped our youngest off at MSU and got her set up in the dorm. In previous years, there were always so many high school activities ,especially marching band, that it was tough to get away on a Friday night. We didn't do as much camping this summer as I would have liked, but this fall we will try to get in 2-3 more weekend trips. We want to take at least one trip to enjoy the fall colors in northern Michigan. We also want to take in one of the fall festival / Halloween weekends at one of many Michigan State Parks. Shannone, if you haven't done one of the Halloween weekends, you really need to take the family and go. The kids will love it. We have a lot more fun decorating the RV than the house. We also give out more candy.

For us it is a good thing that summer is almost gone. The "winter" is when we like to camp. You know highs in the 70's lows in the 40's or 50's. Perfect camping weather. We homeschool, so the kids just grab their bag and off we go.

We were going to do a fall colors weekend up in Alpena but it is about a 450 miles round trip for just a two night weekend. Gas prices being what they are, I think we are going to have to try for something closer to home.
We do have a Halloween weekend planned close to home, and a Halloweekend at Cedar Point. We did that last year and had a GREAT time.

We did Assateague for 2 weeks and 2 other trips. I was out on a medical LOA so didn't have the energy to plan, book, shop and pack for the short trips.
We love to Fall camp. Only problem is that everything fills up so fast and we can't commit til we get the schedules for the kids sports. DH and I both coach. It was so much easier when they were little. ( did I say that)?
I too hate when the kids go back to school. It just means the days are getting shorter ( well they have been getting shorter since June 22) and the long winter is coming fast

We didn't miss any trips this year, however with busy schedules we didn't plan as many. We also don't do much camping during July/August, just too hot in Missouri. But we're heading out this weekend and we're planning several short trips through October. Shoot, if the weather holds we may go into November. We have some really great state parks in MO that are close by so we usually do those. Water is cut off, but that's why we have the tanks.
Fall camping is SO much more fun, warm days, chilly nights make for great campfires and warm dinners under the stars. Can't wait.

Well this weekend just might be the last run of our season. Just found out DS needs his tonsils out ASAP. He went to the dentist and because they are so enlarged, his teeth are not forming right, so they have to com out and I really don't want to take him camping if he can't take off and hang with friends. OH well... I guess there is next year....but I don't wanna wait until May!!!!

We didn't camp much this summer, but have several trips planned this fall and winter on the coast here when the weather is at its best! We pull the kids out of school early on friday's and have some nice long weekends.
The crowds are so bad at the beach in summer we rarely go and its more foggy! But don't tell the touists that, we need them!
