We are thinking of taking the rig to a dog show this weekend, fairgrounds are 3 1/2 hours away, so figured we'd make a trip out of it. Question: Do you just show up and they make a place for you? The show we went to last weekend was local, and I noticed all the RV's...didn't look like there was anymore room.
Do I need to call someone and let them know we need a space?
Thanks for any help~

If you are wanting to camp, I would call the place where the dog show is suppose to be, they should be able to answer any questions you have, or point you in the right directions.
I know around here most of the people who camp at the shows are people who are actually showing their animals or a participant in some other way. You didn't say if you were planning on participating or going just as a spectator.

We are showing! New at it, and haven't been so far away before, so great excuse to take the coach! It is at Fairgrounds, and the booklet does not give contact info for camping - just that it is available.

Is their another person that is showing that you could call? They might know who to call. Did you try goggle searching just the fairgrounds name?
Just some idea's.
I would certainly call someone to get verbal or even better written permission.

Call or go on line to the fairground web site, almost all have campgrounds or power sit ups with Electric and Water so people can camp. The average cost at most Michigan Fairgrounds is between $15 to $20 a night and have restrooms with showers. Hopefully the dog show organization worked out a camping price for those who want to stay on the grounds.

In most cases we have had to reserve a campsite in advance, when registering for the show and paying entry fees.

RV reservation information is always in the premium list.
Many are pre-registration and some even have a dead line that
your money and registration form have to be in by. There are some that are also first come first serve. All the info is in there.
Carefully read the instructions some have arrival restrictions too.
And hold on to your pocktbook when you find out what they charge us RV's to drycamp between two yellow lines in a parking lot when the shows are at an arena or inner city show site!
What show are you heading to? I've probably been there and can tell you about the parking.

Check your Premium List.... on the page that mentions Overnight Parking, they may have a provision for unreserved parking rates, where you pay cash at the gate (usually a few dollars more than the reserved price). At larger shows, though, the parking area usually fills up and you are out of luck.
Check for what hours you can arrive to check in for parking. A general rule of thumb (at least out here in CA) is that the night before the first show parking will be open from 2 or 3 in the afternoon till 10 or 11 at night. On the remaining days of the cluster or weekend, the parking will be open from the completion of BIS judging till 10 or 11 at night.
Once you've camped on site, you'll never want to go back! Sooo much more convenient than the motel hassle!

Ditto! You will wonder why you waited so long!
I had to stay at a motel last week for MH repairs just for about 4 hours during the day. I couldn't wait to get out of there! I sat there thinking how I used to do that 'every' weekend. Couldn't wait to get back to the confines of my nice clean MH.

Absoutely! I'm new to all this, and last year was my first experience with dog shows, although my new wife has been doing it for many years. She knows how to do it right and said we needed the RV, and I readily agreed. Well, that first year really spoiled me. Over the winter, while the rig was in mothballs, we did a show which involved taking my truck and staying in a motel. After that one experience I proclaimed that I'm not going to any more shows without the RV! Pity, I used to love taking road trips in that truck...
Just be sure you are ready for any camping situation. In my limited travels, water is rare, sewer is even more rare, and elctric is spotty. Once we had 30 amps, but usually if there was power it was 15 or 20 amps, Once we had two rigs sharing a 15 amp plug! More often than not we've had no power.
So plan on having full fresh water tanks, empty black and grey water tanks, and a generator. Also, many shows require the use of a generator exhaust diverter like the GenTuri by Camco.
Plan on being self sufficient. Good luck at the show, and have fun!
