Ditto! You will wonder why you waited so long!
Absoutely! I'm new to all this, and last year was my first experience with dog shows, although my new wife has been doing it for many years. She knows how to do it right and said we needed the RV, and I readily agreed. Well, that first year really spoiled me. Over the winter, while the rig was in mothballs, we did a show which involved taking my truck and staying in a motel. After that one experience I proclaimed that I'm not going to any more shows without the RV! Pity, I used to love taking road trips in that truck...
Just be sure you are ready for any camping situation. In my limited travels, water is rare, sewer is even more rare, and elctric is spotty. Once we had 30 amps, but usually if there was power it was 15 or 20 amps, Once we had two rigs sharing a 15 amp plug! More often than not we've had no power.
So plan on having full fresh water tanks, empty black and grey water tanks, and a generator. Also, many shows require the use of a generator exhaust diverter like the GenTuri by Camco.
Plan on being self sufficient. Good luck at the show, and have fun!

AND bring a minumum of 150 feet of water hose and 150+ of electrical cord with you at all times!
I swear about 1/3 of my rear weight CCC is designated to the above. Who'd a thought cord could weigh that much!!!!

LOL! I was just thinking I had left off that important detail, so I was coming back to add it... and you beat me to it!
A very good point, if there are any hookups, it's rare for them to be conveniently placed. I carry 75 feet of hose (25 + 50) and 75 feet of 30 amp extenions (3 x 25) which gives me 100 feet of reach when used with my regular shore cord. That's usually enough, but there was a time when I had to go scrounging to get that last few feet to the outlet...

Rockhillmanor: we are heading to Danville IL. the Georgetown Fairgrounds....ever been?
They left me a message last night that said "When you get here, we'll find you a space for your MH"
So that sounds promising! Except that most folks show up the night before, and we won't get there until Saturday late morning. Thanks for the headsup on the generator exhaust thingy...dont have one!
We are very excited, and it will be a new adventure....haven't been to shows far away...think I'll take the advice and start going!
Thanks again everyone!

Quick water hose funny and why we carry so much hose;
I had just had my hot water heater worked on before a trip. AND assumed it was hooked up right.
Well after the first day dry camping in a parking lot at a show that had NO hookups I was out of water! Came to find out they forgot to put the plug back in and I lost all my holding tank water. Packed in like sardines moving the coach was not an option.
Well we found a water source about a block away. As dog people are 'everyone' at the show chipped in and started hooking up all their water hoses to reach the source for me. Turned into a mission and a great beer drinking hose party!

Wow...a fairgrounds. You guys are spoiled . I mostly do agility-AKC, CPE, USDAA, NADAC, and up this area, we are usually camped out in a field-no hookups. When we went to the CPE Nationals this year at a fairgrounds, we were excited to have electric. I thought we were in heaven
The premimum list should contain camping information. I'd think even more so at a fairgrounds-because they usually have hook ups. Generally, depending on the show site, you usually get there and park near the other RVs. When we are at larger shows (like the Wine Country Circuit here in NY), you are assigned a site once you get there.
Once you camp at a show you will NEVER want to stay at a hotel again. It really is nice and does spoil you (and your dogs!). I hate winter b/c the RV is put away and if I have to travel, I have to hotel it.
Good luck-it's a great adventure.

Are you going to Wine Country this year? How about you, rockhill? We got our reservations in early this year, so hopefully we won't be in the overflow field again this time.

Funny, the norm for our venue is FREE camping (no hook-ups) and we generally expect grass and very few level sites.
Some friends were trying to start a new trial this year and the mangers of the event grounds wanted to charge a camping fee in addition to what they are charging for renting the grounds for the event. The event was canceled for this year.
Once you've relaxed at a show/trial in your own space, slept in your own bed, used your own bathroom you'll wonder why you waited.

Speaking of show grounds, this is where our Nationals will be this year. For scale, the long side of the camping area is about 300 yards.

I actually prefer the events that are held at Fairgrounds, lower parking fee and you get to stake out your own site.
I'm at KHP right now and pre registered for RV parking with the Kennel Club. I arrived 3 days early and hmmmm, I found out that the Kennel Club is charging me $10.00 extra per night more than the actual park charges.

I am probably not doing Wine Country this year. We usually do agility but the past few years it has been a mudpit. I have until next week to decide. If we do, it will probably only be Sunday, and I won't bring the MH (we live in Rochester-so we're not too far away)
Do you show in breed? Usually, all of the actually sites at Sampson w/hookups go to breed folks who are staying all 4 days. We are always in the overflow area b/c even when we do multiple days, it's 3 at most. I don't mind the overflow too much, because we're usually right up by the road and it's a quick walk across the street to the agility rings.
