Do you show in breed? Usually, all of the actually sites at Sampson w/hookups go to breed folks who are staying all 4 days. We are always in the overflow area b/c even when we do multiple days, it's 3 at most. I don't mind the overflow too much, because we're usually right up by the road and it's a quick walk across the street to the agility rings.

Yep, conformation for us, and we will be there all 4 days. We were in overflow last year, as we didn't decide to go until the last minute. It was a nice spot, with lots of room and good grass and no mud, but also no shade and no power. Not bad at all, and I wouldn't object to being there again, but it'll be nice to have one of the regular sites.

Do agility shows have a 'different' premium list than the breed club shows that are hold on the same day?

I seriously doubt that parking is given preferencial treatment to breed exhibitors. In the premium list for the all breed shows there is ALWAYS a section for RV reservations for each venue. They can not pick and choose who can park at the venue.

If you do have a different premium list, maybe you should click on the premium list for the all breeds off infodog and copy the RV reservations so that you can enjoy the RV parking too.

When you search infodog click on show 'all shows' instead of just the agility ones and look for ones that have AB in the type of show that match the same venue as yours. You will find the RV reservations there.

When you go to the show, and if you can pick where you park..... always try to scope out what breed is parked next to your spot. I try to avoid parking next to any set up that has a bunch of little x-pens set up. Those folks will have 300 toy dogs that never stop barking, and the owners are apparently deaf.

Also avoid certain large breeds-( Dobies are one I try to never park next to,) another group of owners who seem to have lost their hearing, who get up before the sun comes up to put dogs out in their pens, and then go back inside for their coffee. It's like they forget that the person in the rig next door may still wish to sleep.

For the most part, most show campers are very congenial and helpful. But some of them!!!!!!! Nothing more annoying then being parked next to a pack of Cujoe's, leaping and frothing at the mouth acting as if they want to tear you apart every time you pass by their set up. If you are parked next door, it gets annoying.

Those owners/handler seem to think they will break the dogs spirit if they correct that behaviour. Or maybe they think its funny, or their too darn lazy to train the dogs. Don't know, don't care which it is, but I hate it.

Anyhow, I'll park all the way in the back if possible just to avoid this nonsense. Have fun at the show! And good luck.

Thanks again for all of the advice! On the premium list, it just says "camping with electric available" but no reservation info....so we will just wing it.
I appreciate all the input and I'll drop a note when we return!

That's an unusual premium list. Usually, there is a form in the back to fill out for camping reservations. I just took a look at that one, and there are two references to camping available, but no instructions on who to contact for reservations or information. How odd...

Have done a lot of show camping over the years, and this is why I like horses! They are pretty quiet!

When I switched from showing horses to showing dogs I did go thru a whole bottle of Tylenol the first weekend!. Definitely a bit more activity and noise level. Although I most certainly do NOT miss ALL the LOOSE dogs that are at horse shows.

Regarding premium lists: If it says electric and/or hookups available and that's all, that means there is parking for RV's and it's a first come first served and pay when you get there.

I just sent in my RV reservations for a popular 12 day show in Florida that's in January!! And I still might not be able to get a spot.

Quick water hose funny and why we carry so much hose;
I had just had my hot water heater worked on before a trip. AND assumed it was hooked up right.

Well after the first day dry camping in a parking lot at a show that had NO hookups I was out of water! Came to find out they forgot to put the plug back in and I lost all my holding tank water. Packed in like sardines moving the coach was not an option.

Well we found a water source about a block away. As dog people are 'everyone' at the show chipped in and started hooking up all their water hoses to reach the source for me. Turned into a mission and a great beer drinking hose party!

Our last trip out was in July. First weekend had decent RV parking (Del Monte KC). No water, but we did have 30 amp electric. During the week we stayed at a couple of campgrounds, then the second weekend of shows was at a high school, rigs stuffed in like sardines on a blacktop parking lot. No hookups, generators going till 11 at night.

As we left the CG for this second venue, I made sure to fill our water tank as I disconnected us from the CG water. I never run a full tank for just a weekend, we are too close to our GVWR -- but half a tank is always more than enough water for a show weekend. I made the mistake of asking DH to check the tank level while I stayed outside with the hose. "Half full" came the reply, so I put the hose away, DH came out and dumped our tanks, and away we went. Next morning while I was out at ringside, DH tried to take a shower and ran out of water. Seems when he checked the water level for me, he had been pressing the switch for the gray tank level!!!!

We use bottled water for drinking and cooking, so we had some gallon jugs at our disposal. Found a water spigot about 100 yards away on the outside of the high school gymnasium, and schlepped the water back and forth.... 30 gallons worth.

GREAT story....I'll let you know how the weekend turns out! Not going to get there until Saturday am....I'm sure everyone else is already there! "We're self contained" DH says...doesn't matter WHERE we end up!
I supposed he's right....

IMHO RV'ing at dog shows has better prepared me for full timing.
An RV dog shower learns very quickly every inch of their coach and how to fix it how each and everything works and have a plethera of tricks and ideas of how to make the RV experience better!

Camping under adverse conditions, learning how to dry camp from the get go, the intense mental drive NOT to miss a show even when having major and/or minor breakdowns while enroute, learning how to make repairs while on the run instead of just throwing one's hands up and calling a tow truck, we don't have that luxury of sitting back and letting a repair shop take 2 days to fix 'our' coaches, they've got to be fixed right then and there to get there so as not to miss the call to the ring for your dog!

AND if you 'ever' want to know what brand of RV is reliable and built well..........ask someone who is on the show circuit!

We run these RV's up to high miles and sometimes abuse them but they must be ready and willing when we jump in them for the next show circuit.
We run them hard and put them away wet like a good working horse.
