If you are not locked to SD, you should take the time to check out Texas and in particular, Escapees RV Club, the only complete support system for full-time RV living. You can get your residence set up in Texas from long distance as well.

One thing to keep in mind however is that Arizona is not going to let you off of the hook from the legal issues there as long as your are physically in the state. I suggest that you be very careful about tax issues there just to avoid problems, no matter where you choose to move your domicile. If you are employed in Arizona, you will have to pay their state income tax, at the very least.

We just, this past week, completed our residency process in SD from 2100 miles away using MyDakotaAddress.com (Dakota International Services, LLC in Madison). We worked with Terri Lund and she's been terrific! I can't say enough with regard to how easy she made things for us. We went into this thing not knowing anything. She gently lead us through it all answering all the dumb questions. She registered the two vehicles,(including spending time researching vanity plate availability, set up our mail forwarding, sent all kinds of info including a great place to park the coach and toad when we stop to get our driver's licencses, etc., etc. All this with only a three month payment and postage deposit for the mail forwarding (and of course a check for the registrations.

She was terrific! (BTW, we discovered her through this forum and we thank the poster!

I "moved" to SD last year, long distance from NJ. I did everything by phone, then arrived in SD about a month later to take care of DL. I had my new address for a couple of months before actually leaving NJ, so that gave me plenty of time to notify cc, etc of new address. Once I had my DL, ins, voter reg., I notified NJ. I contacted my ins co, DMV (NJ requires return of plates), and NJ state tax dept to confirm my leaving NJ and SD residency. By the way, like many posters I use Alternative Resource- great!!! Kathy

Second the motion for mydakotaaddress.com. Terri Lund is a marvel and very helpful, especially on getting your vehicle plates. You can show up at any SD DMV to get your driver's license and register to vote at the same time. We saved $450/yr. on our truck insurance by "moving" from TX to SD.

Another vote for My Dakota Address. My truck is still "owned" by the bank and they wouldn't release the title so I could change it to SD. Terri helped us over this hump with no problem. We're on our way to SD now to get our driver's licenses.

We also used Alternative Resources long distance from AZ, 3 months later went and got our DL and stayed one night in an RV park to establish residence and register to vote. Never been "chased" by AZ, and we notified the AZ Dept of Motor Vehicles we were no longer AS residents. Thats all it took folks, easy as pie thanks to the folks at Alternative Resources. When we filed our taxes the following year we notified IRS of our residency in SD. Of course, we no longer own property in AZ either. If you do, you will have to pay property taxes. The IRS does't care where you live as long as they get their bite. AZ cannot levy income tax if you are a resident of another state. Good Luck.
