Not trying to rain on your parade, I think riding a bike would be fun. Just saying that you need to be very careful. Being adventurous and being dead aren't very far apart if you're not watching out for the other guy.

Thank you. I am very careful but do realize the risks involved.

I also should have mentioned that I am far from the "Safety Police" and I hope I didn't come across that way. I plan to be out on my atv this weekend and I know the dangers associated with those, too. But I absolutely LOVE riding my little 4-wheeler through the woods!

jtbeck,
It's understood that the rider and his or her family are OK with the inherent physical risks involved in motorcycle riding. It is up to each rider to properly assess these issues, then do what they think and feel is right for them. Outside of piloting your own aircraft, there's not a more exciting way to travel.

I have a sweet tender nature, however I enjoy sharing my thoughts and opinions.

You POOR, POOR man you!! Having to buy an old ugly Fat Boy and all!! LOL! I think the Fat Boy is the sexiest of all Harleys. And a toyhauler too....I hope you don't have to buy one of those dreaded things. (they are wonderful....we've had one before and they are nice!) Well, please at least TRY to have a good time!!

I loved your story Rhonda.
I just turned 60, and had NEVER been on a bike.In August, I did my first trip, 'back home' to Wales in almost 30 years. The friend that I stayed with has a Yamaha Fazer 1000cc. We were both speed freaks, with cars, when we were young, so of course he insisted that I climb on the back of his bike one quiet Sunday morning!
Quiet no more! holy smoke! This thing accelerates faster than any road car, (maybe not with me on the back though!) We drove up to Abergavenny, where hundreds of bikes from all over the western part of the UK gather. All sport bikes, no Harleys or Gold Wings in sight! Slurping tea and meat pies, the 'lads' form loose groups and decide where to 'blast' to. Brecon Beacons, Black Mountains, Mid Wales (where it looks just like Western Canada) are some of the destinations.
The 'Beacons' was our target, with friend, Dave, from Bristol, who sounded like a pirate, tagging along. The road is a twisty, 60mph, road, and on one short straight stretch, we more than doubled that! It's not the 'squirt' from a standstill that's impressive, but more the acceleration from say 60 and up. The handling and braking was very impressive, although my weight and screaming probably didn't help.
We made it to Llandovery, where a cup of tea, stretch & a vanilla slice was most welcome. The whole area was full of bikers, all sipping tea!
It was a very memorable day, I'm even of thinking of getting my first bike, but maybe not a Fazer!
BTW, I was born in the Rhondda Valley, where your name originates! I think in Welsh, Rhondda means 'Noisy', which with your choice of bikes, is really appropriate!

Wonderful story! I enjoyed it. Wow, a place called Rhondda Valley. Who woulda thought it?

Rhonda, just let me know when you want to go there. I'll meet you all in Homestead or Florida City and ride down with you. It will be a great excuse for another road trip. I wish the pic would have come out better but I didn't have the Canon with me plus it was close to sundown. I'll get a better pic to show.

I would LOVE to take you up on that! You just never know. Let's stay in touch and someday it may happen. Hey....where's that other pic you were gonna show me?
