This Thursday will mark the end of our first workamper experience. DW and I have been at the KOA in Cavendish, PEI, Canada. The opportunity came up quickly and after only two calls they decided to take us on. We've had a nice site - FHU with 50/amp & wi-fi. There was a schedule right from the beginning and they have held to it right slong. Drive the hay wagon couple of times a week, take care of the petting barn once a week, do a pancake breakfast once a week, trash detail once a week & serve pie and ice cream a couple of times. All fun and nice opportunities to chat with folks. We had some friends visit during a week and the owners were very flexible with our time.
We will be out west next Summer and will miss PEI and Vic and Kay of the KOA.
We wish other first-timers an expereience such as ours.

Wow, that's not what most find in work camping. Many are told one thing at the beginning and another after they take the job. Glad to hear you had such a good time.

Not true at all. Since you do not workamp, how would you know?
Most, actually all, find the experience to be exactly as expected.

In all our times volunteering all over the country, not once was it anything other than advertised. While I've heard of deviations from others, I'm sure the vast majority are in the same situation as me.

Sounds like a fun experience - I read your list of duties to DH and he said "we could handle that!" Glad you had such a good time.

We have had both, the good and the bad, but the good have outweighed the bad over the years. After this year though, we will only work for those who are willing to put the duties and expectations into writing, not necessarily a contract, but a paper or email showing the agenda. The problem this year was a manager in fear of loosing her job, plus an owner and his wife who micro-managed all of the workers, after the manager. Not a good situation or good for morale.

Wow! I love PEI so I envy you. Did you also get paid for your work or just get your site for free? I'd be interested to know.
Thanks,

We workamped at the KOA in Cavendish PEI this summer as well. (Hi NoSnowInAZ!)
We also enjoyed our time there.
We did not get paid for our work, we received our full hook up site in exchange for approximately 20 hours per week between the two of us.
Vic and Kay were very nice people to work for!
"Beer. It's the reason I get up every afternoon."
