We had a great trip traveling 6,167 miles, 1,040 miles by boat and 5,127 miles (including over 600 miles of dirt road) in our Sportsmobile Sprinter ("the Bus"). Traveling as far north as 67°14?55"(Coldfoot, Alaska), we used 270 gallons of diesel for an average 19 mpg.

If any of you have questions about specifics just email me. The report, still being updated, is on my blog.

Regards,

Keith

PS. The only problem we had is now we have to go back again! Yahoooo!

The excellent adventures of Keith and Debbie. Observations about life, at home and on the road in our 2008 Sportsmobile Sprinter.

Other posts have indicated that the Alaska trips, and travel, have decreased by up to 20+% this year. Roads are less traveled, with fewer visitors, and retailers have closed earlier this year than in other years past. This is in part to the rising fuel costs and other economic issues.
I know that other people are staying closer to there home base due to these issues.
Yes it was a lifelong dream when we did it in 02.

Glad you had a great adventure. We have driven, so far, + 13,500 this year, traveling from TN to CA, North through OR & WA, the Canadian Rockies and Alaska. Did you drive the Top of the World Hwy to Chicken?

Hi Rebecca. Yes they did go to Chicken. It was on day 22 of their adventures. They have a nice blog of their trip.

The Top of the World Hwy and the Alaska Hwy are 2 roads that everyone should drive, at least once.

We will spend more time on the Top of World next trip. There is a great looking campground on the route.

The Denali Highway was also great. I am still working on that post. It was the roughest dirt road we encounted but even in the rain a real adventure.

Regards,

Keith
