When we went fulltime, we had accounts with a national bank (USAA Federal Savings Bank) and an additional checking account with a local bank. Now just use USAA and have savings, checking, social security and army retirement to checking account, ATM and debit card, and a couple credit cards. Just about all bills are automatically paid by one of the credit cards, credit cards are paid out of checking. Savings provides overdraft protection for checking. Pretty slick.

We do everything through internet banking and just withdraw cash at bank machine as needed. We are 6 months in Ontario Canada and 6 months in Florida. Works for us. All deposits are automatic.

I use B 0f A. Been with them 30 years. I'm on direct deposit and do all my bill paying in line, I think I've written maybe 3 checks in the last 6 years lol. Haven't had a single problem.

We used Chase Bank and Bank of America. Had auto deposit and a FL mailing address to receive all normal mail through Passport America. I accessed, and still access, our accounts online to keep aware of what is going on with the accounts.

We stayed at the credit union we had used for several years before full timing, have had no problems. Usually get cash at Wal-Mart when getting groceries.

Any bank with online bill pay available should work for you. As mentioned either check what type of fees your bank has for out of network ATM transactions or get cash back at Wal-Mart using a debit card. Only issue we have had has been the few times we need to deposit a paper check, we have to mail it back to our bank. See if your bank has special address/envelopes for mail in deposits. Many do.

I keep a 'minimum' amount in a bank that has branches in most of the states in a checking account that supplies a debit/credit card with them. I say 'minimum amount' because most of these banks are carrying a D- rating. I don't want all my money in 'those' banks while I am on the road when some of these are bellying up weekly. BOA has been reported as on the very edge just this past week.
I refuel the limited amount checking account when needed from a bank where my nest egg sits. That way if the card is stolen, checks lost or copied, etc they don't have the info/access to where the big amount is parked.
Credit/debit cards attached to a small checking account affords you all the ease of a credit card and when you need cash the debit side of it will allow to withdraw needed cash at walmart, grocery stores, etc.

Our original CU (when we hit the road) is part of the nationwide CU network. We can bank at any participating CU.
We also have our main CU in our home of record where all our bills are paid, our cc's are and other various accounts. We also open accts at local banks if we are going to be in an area for a long period of time......it all works well for us and we have had no problems.
Almost all of our financials are done online.
