I think Credit Unions, especially Federal, work best. Nationwide network allows deposits, withdrawls, balance checking, etc. most anywhere in this country. Mine even refunds any ATM fees back to me.

We use two Bank one is a Nationwide system and the other is local. We pay no ATM charges thru one of the Banks. And of course we use Wally World for cash back most of the time. Our stick house bills are auto pay. But most are done on line. GBY....

Our local bank was bought by Wachovia, so we stayed with them.

As usual Im in a different category. I joined a small town bank over 30 years ago, kept my account in good order. Had other accounts with all the biggies during the same time, as we moved around the u.s.
Due to a great relationship with my local bank, I can and do call from everywhere in the U.S. and get whatever I need done. Never in 30 plus years have I ever been questioned. We pay all bills on monthly debit on the account or on cc, then pay the cc out of the account automatically.

I personally dont think it matters who you use, but how you use them and how the treat you.

Our little ole town bank offers ATM thru Cirrus and it is good anywhere there is an ATM. Naturally they charge , but my relationship with my little bank , means more to me than money.

We stayed with our local bank in NH. One of the VPs and his wife were personal friends and the people in the bank knew us. That worked well for several years and then the bank was bought by a larger out of town bank. Our friend was a victim of the transition and now we are dealing with people that don't know us and that we don't know.

We plan to move to a national bank - wanted Bank of America but they don't have a branch in Sioux Falls and we would like for the bank we choose to have a branch there.

BofA for us. Online banking for years. DH's SSI is direct deposited and with nationwide availability of ATM's, we haven't been inside in years. LOL!

Guess it really depends on what you're looking for and how you like to bank. Dear MIL (land-based) still goes inside every week and puts a lot on customer service. Whatever works...

Wells Fargo. No hassles. No problems anywhere I go.
Everything is via email and online. No paper mail following me around trying to catch up.

Banking while fulltiming is really no problem. We use USAA, which is a fantastic bank, but other banks will work fine. USAA offers free checking, free checks, free postage paid deposit envelopes, online banking with free transfers to USAA or outside banks, online deposits by fax (really cool!), free Billpay, free overdraft protection (to another USAA account), credit cards with cash back, free ATM with reimbursement of ATM fees and a lot more. Just join USAA or look for these features at your bank.
