Arrived home from the long labor day weekend at our property in the Adirondack mountains after a wonderful weekend with 35 close friends and family. Yes they were all in RV's (five TT's, one 5th wheel, one motorhome, one popup, two tents, one boat) all on our two acre lawn. Every thing was going fine until we got home and unpacked. I put the slide out so we would have more room, no problem right! When I tried to bring it in only one side was moving so I had to push it back out. It was hot we were hungry so I left it. Tonight with some help from a friend I discovered the problem. It looks lie a broken roll pin on the right side gear. At least it is 0.50$ pin and not the slide track or shaft. Has any one else had this happen? There is not much room to work under the slide so it might be a fun job to replace the pin. Oh well my time is cheaper than the dealers and I don't have to take it to them. Gee I almost forgot the slide is stuck out so I can't to it to them. I need to get it fixed the weekend because the Adirondack Balloon festival is coming up and I don't want to miss it.

I`m going from memory here. If it`s like ours, the shaft is square stock and the roll pin is only to locate it in alignment left to right so it stays engaged on the rack. The square shaft does the driving. If that`s the case, you should be able to turn the driven side until the measurements from one side to the other are about equal, slide the gear into engagement with the rack, and drive a new pin in. I would think if the alignment from one side to the other is close, the slide should move fairly freely. I`ve not repaired one of these yet, but expect I will eventually. Good luck. Let us know how you make out. And, those pink things are fingers. Don`t hammer them.

had trouble with an elect slide, just as you are...broken pin. cranked the square end till the slide was even put a bolt in...ran it back. However the tube was walled out around the hole ever so slightly ( which is probably why it broke the pin to begin with --allowed it to 'slap' into the move) So i would up replacing the tube, ( which had been made thicker by the manf. ...wonder why??)several weeks later, problem never resurfaced.

You are lucky that it happened to you at home. I had the same thing happen in the middle of a long trip. Did not know what was wrong at the time. Called a service man from a RV shop 30 miles away. After about 3 or 4 hours of waiting for him to arrive, he immediately found that the slide would not retrack cos of a broken coter pin. Charged me 75 dollars for the service call, but threw in the new coter pin for free :-)
P.S. Another thing worth mentioning is every once in awhile, spray the slide out track with silicon spray. This will lessen the stress and make the motor run easier. I got a good & cheap can at Wal-Mart.

one thing people often overlook when opening slides at home, the trailer must still be level or close to it. especially important with electric slides.

it will wallow out again...I'd put a bolt through it that just fits right through the hole, not too small to where it could move around, and then weld a bead around the bolt. I had a Rockwood slide that broke the pin twice until I corrected it like this.

Thanks for the info. I will take a closer look at it this weekend and post an update. The easy part will be getting the slide square with the body. I am also going to look at the support rollers they may have come loose and dropped down a bit causing the slide track to bind.

Dave,
You indicated you paid $75 for the service tech to drive 30 miles to change a cotter pin. I assume he had to drive back the same 30 miles. Would it be fair to estimate that he spent 1 1/2 hours getting ready, travelling, examining the problem, fixing it and returning back to the shop? With the price of gas, wear and tear on the vehicle, his time and expertise, would it be fair to say it was $75 well spent?

Not EXACTLY the same problem, but I had a shear pin break on my actuater shaft a few weeks ago. I had to remove the the shaft to get to the pin. I took the whole shaft to the local RV DEALER in hopes they would have a pin in stock. Instead the service writer told me that shaft is now junk and useless. Since my TT is still under LEPPERT warranty, he ordered a new actuater shaft for me. In the meantime I had to move my TT a few times. So I drilled a bigger hole thru the outer shell of the shaft, bought a new rolled pin, and hammered it in. It worked perfect for 6 moves until the new shaft arrived. I hammered the pin back out before exchanging shafts. I just think the service writers call to disbar the old shaft (INSTEAD OF JUST REPLACING THE PIN) was ridiculous.
