On our last trip out, a wind gust took the awning and separated the inner rail from the outer rail - not sure if it was a stress thing because of the site/location/luck we were on, or if there was some human error on my part in forgetting to tighten down one of the knobs on the arm of the awning. I was able to get everything back together (thank god I brought my ladder), but the arm banged into the side of the trailer and gouged (sp?) it pretty good. Is there any special type of caulking or sealant that I should use over the crack for protection from the elements? It doesn't look too deep, looks like mostly a surface crack...

I assume you are talking about a fiberglass side?

Correct, sorry I should have said it was the fiberglass that is damaged...

Put some NASCAR tape (duck tape) over the crack if you think it is all the way thru the side. Then find a body shop you trust and have them repair it. If they are good you will never see the repair.

I would use silicone or silkaflex to seal it till you get repairs done, any moisture that gets in will start causing delam which will result in a higher repair bill.

Auto stores have a filler that is fiberglass (as opposed to bondo which holds water) that you should be able to put on, sand down, and recoat. It's been years since I've done any body work so I can't remember what exactly its called.
