No need for a tour company. Just go to the beach. Plenty of kids to meet there.

I wouldn't go with a tour company unless you are bad with directions. Get a rental car and a book and go see what you want to see on your own time. The main attractions at Pearl Harbor are in the same spot. Follow the signs to the Arizona Memorial and everything is there. You can be bussed from the AZ memorial over to the USS Missouri.

Quite a few people talk about tours with Roberts Hawaii on the Cruise Critic website. Look under the Hawaii boards for additional current information on what people are doing and businesses people are using.

We only used R.H. for shuttling from the airport to Hilton Hawaiian Village in Waikiki and from hotel to the cruise ship pier.

But the Roberts site will show areas that may be of interest to you. Hubby and I didn't have much time in Oahu, otherwise we might have booked their island overview tour.

We did Pearl Harbor on our own (and rented the personal audio headsets to listen to narration of what we were seeing - which I recommend if a person isn't doing an organized tour.

Plan to spend all day, or better yet, two days if you have it - to see Pearl Harbor.

We got there early as recommended, wandered through the museum displays, listening to our audio and went out to the memorial. Wandered around the monuments for the submarines that were lost in the Pacific. Didn't have time to go on the Missouri or the submarine or go to the Punchbowl (cemetery). We'll have to do those on our next trip to Hawaii.

You might

You might look at the state tourism website to see what tour companies are available. Or talk with a travel agent to see who they recommend.

Have a great time! Hawaii is terrific. Oh, and don't forget to treat you and daughter to shave ice - delicious!

I can't recommend a tour company but if you are looking for a more social experience then I would definitely go with one. We took a couple of group tours in Alaska and really enjoyed them. What you might want to do is a little of both-some touring on your own (the island isn't that difficult to navigate) and book a few group events, maybe a boat cruise of some sort or a snorkeling tour. I would highly recommend visiting the Polynesian Cultural Center. It was one of the most memorable experiences we had there.

I would also recommend getting some travel books in advance. There's a series of books on the islands by the same author-I have one and if I can find it I'll post the title. I only remember it has a blue cover on it. They were great.

As others have said before, we also rented a car - on several islands. The rental agency was wonderful in helping us locate places we wanted to see - and many more. They will also tell you where NOT to go. lol Plus, they have maps. Traveling around in Hawaii is not difficult at all. Promise!
Check with your hotel as sometimes they will have 'socials' for the kids. The one we stayed at had something going every nite, inside and on the beach.
Enjoy your trip!!

Make friends w/ the locals. Hawaii people are the best (I married one)! They will give you all kinds of good advice, where to visit off the tourist track, where to get good "local food", cheap / free hula shows, etc. Just ask a lot of questions (politely) and you'll learn a lot and have great time.
Aloha.
