We have a reservation for the H loop (electric) next week but would like to know if there is fresh water available in the park for us to top our tank off with. The maps show the bathroom/showers, camp store and the dump site, etc., but no water icons are noted. I would assume that they would also have fresh water available but you know what they say about assuming anything!! On the NJ state park maps they show where each water source throughout each park is located but this wasn't the case with Assateague. Thanks for any help.

There is one at the dump station close to your loop. There are several thruout the park. Enjoy your stay, may Hanna be long gone.

Cape if I recall you have H32. We have been on that site. I think we have it for next year. You can top off your tank from the fresh water hook up right behind you. We would just take the hose and fill up without moving. We never had a problem with the camp host.
when we stayed on h18 the hose could not reach..well it did 2 years ago but that is a long funny story. So this year we topped off with about ten gallons a day from 2 5 gallons water jugs.
We did not shower in the TT. Bath house is located right behind the brush with inside and outside showers. We also did dishes up there about every two days. Big deep tub, so it made dish washing fast and easy. We put all of our dishes in a "dish' wagon and pulled it up to the Bathhouse. The dish wagon was the children's play wagon...now known as the "dish" wagon.
Have fun and say hi to the ponies for us.

To Bucky..thanks for your quick response. I agree with you in hoping that Hanna is long gone by next week..the sooner the better.
To Bonnie.. Thanks so much for the detailed info. I am so glad that we will be able to reach the water from the site. I have heard great things about camping on Assateague and have had the reservation since about February (at that time there were only 2 sites left for our chosen week!) We are SO looking forward to it and are keeping our fingers crossed that the hurricane will be a thing of the past by then..Thanks again for the info..We will make sure to tell the ponies hello from you!

Hope you enjoy Assateague as much as we did! Just to follow up on Bonnie's remarks, we found the showers to be cleaner (and cleaned more often) than at any other park we have ever stayed at (we stay almost exclusively at state parks). Hope Hannah (and Ike and whoever) stay away!

Bonnie..Yes, we are taking the ferry..we live nearby so it makes it an easy choice. I am not sure if we are going to go straight through OC Maryland to reach our destination or take SR24 in delaware and then onto US113. Apparently OC Maryland has a motorcycle convention which begins next Thursday 9/11/08 (I hate that date )so we really don't want to be traveling through the resort with thousands of bikers while pulling a TT. Either way..we are looking forward to our trip!

Take 24 to 113s, you will miss about a hundred traffic lights and traffic jams. We always take Rt 113 south to Berlin MD, pass the Atlantic General Hospital, then make a left at the next traffic light at the Uncle Willeys store.(there is a sign for Assateague there) That road will take you right to Rt 611. Make a right on 611 and 3 1/2 miles to Assateague. Have fun.
Don't like the view?? Then change it and Go Camping
