Does anyone have a wiper system on his truck cap rear window? Since I am using my pickup as a daily driver 95% of the time, I thought this would be a very useful thing to have for my daily driving in bad weather - to provide better vision and thus improved safety.

I did a Goggle search and found a 2002 announcement that A.R.E. had started to offer a rear window wiper as an option on their caps. However, when I called up a local A.R.E. dealer they said that they have never heard of such an option. I wonder whether there were some issues (such as reliability) that made them drop this as an option later. I called a Leer dealer, they don't carry such an option either. In my search I also came across some information on after market truck cap wiper systems but could not find any reviews or testimonies on how well (or bad) they work.

I am in the process of deciding whether to get a truck cap or a tonneau cover for my truck. Any advice or comments in comparing the two routes, such as convenience and safety between them, are appreciated,

I remember seeing a rear wiper on a truck cap at a dealer a couple years back but the cost was a little too high. What you may be able to do is retro fit a wiper from an SUV, maybe a GM Blazer or similar models. Dang, now you've twigged my interest again, maybe time for a trip to the junkyard.

I would save the money and just use the side mirrors.

Never had a sedan with a rear wiper, didnt use them on any suv Ive owned, pickup doesnt have one on the rear window now, cant use the rearview mirror when we are towing, I drive all day in a semi that doesnt even have a rearview mirror.........what exactly are you looking for that you cant see with the side mirrors??? Ive never really considered a rearview mirror for "safety"?

As for a cap or cover, I would say neither, but if I had to I would go with the cap.

speaking of a cover, yesterday I saw another pick up with the rear cover sort of half twisted up so that they could carry something high. I have seen them Bakflip-tonneau.com happens to be showing now where you have a hard cover but it is in various sections.

The ARE Z-Series cap I had on my old truck had a wiper option. It already had a hole on the glass for it. But, that was back in 2002. Things might have changed between now and then.

So A.R.E. indeed had a wiper option at 2002. For one reason or another, it is no longer available.

Thanks, I saw that too. I am going to take a look at that to see if it might fit my need.

Check out JC Whitney online catalog. You can probably find exactly what you want there. I know in years past they offered electric wiper conversions for old cars and trucks. I would bet you could get one of those cheap and adapt it easily.

Donn, I called up JC Whitney and was told that they don't carry anything like that neither. I guess I just have to move on to either get a cap w/o a wiper or go with a tonneau cover. Thanks!
