In the spring are going to get a new DMAX(4wd)and fifth wheel. With the prices the way they are, now seems to be the time to get the truck so I went out looking today and ran into a problem.
My current truck is 32" bed height and the DMAX 4wd are 39".
I know I could probably flip axles on fifth wheel and add blocks but it seems that 7 inches is more than I would like.
Does anyone know if all 2008 DMAX 4wd are 39"?
The pin box is already at its lowest for this truck.
Any thoughts, opinions, comments, cuss words will be appreciated.

Bad news is the Truck Ain't gonna get any shorter.
My '06 3500 Dmax bed is 39".
Axles on my trailer came flipped.
Good news is it sure rides good.
It pulls like a bear.
12 mpg with the trailer.
Fun is that stuff that happens in between mistakes.

Preface...I don't know how or where bed height is measured...but your question sparked my curiosity.
Just went outside and measured from the ground to the bed of my 2007.5 NBS Duramax at the rear bumper and it is closer to 36 inches. The truck sits rear high unloaded so this is the highest point. From the ground to the top of the bed rail is 57 inches and from the bed the rail measures 21 inches.
No real point to this other than I use a Hijacker hitch with our 27ft Springdale. Hitched it has a very slight nose-high attitude (barely noticable)and has 6+ inches of bed rail clearance. It tows great!

Order the truck without the regular box and put a flatbed on it instead. You can get them customized with built-in toolboxes or extra fuel tanks and you can keep your trailer height stock and never worry about 5th wheel to truck bed rail clearance again!

I am putting a flatbed on my new Dodge. The truck came with a box, now what do I do with the box?
The dealer will give me $400 for it. I really have no place to store it and I intend to keep the flatbed and truck until I can't drive anymore.
(Hope that is a few more years)
Thanks,
Jim

39" from where to where, if thats from the ground to bed I dont see it playing a role in towing a 5er as it would from ground to rail, on the stock 4x4 its 57"

Should have mentioned the 32" and 39" was from ground to top of tailgate opened. It was 29" at wheelwell. Bed to top of hitch is 16". Ground to top of bedrail approximately 49".
Measured "flip" on axle and looks like I would gain about 4.5" leaving me 2.5 lower than now with new truck. I am not concerned with the bedrail clearance as I now have about 4.5" and has not been a problem.
I am concerned although about the "nose high" SH referred to. I know this puts extra stress on rear trailer tires and axles.
I would be only using the trailer a couple of times before buying a new one in the spring. Maybe I should just quit worrying about it and buy the truck now and save the $5-7000 dollars more I would spend on it next year.

You should be concerned about the bedrail clearance because the reality is you don't have 4.5" of clearance with a LEVEL trailer, it's nose high now. You mentioned that the truck's hitch was at it's lowest point. What about the trailer adjustment...but you lower the nose back down and there goes your 4" of clearance?
You already know you should have a level trailer and there are only a couple ways of doing it when the nose is high and you have limited clearance. Raise the trailer or lower the bedrail clearance somehow.
The next question is, at what point is it too far out of level? Is it something you can live with? Guess I would leave that answer up to a qualified dealer!

Here's all of the specifications you could ask for on GMC/Chev 3/4 and 1 ton trucks.
The 2wd crew cab is 35.2" and the 4wd crew cab is 35.7.
