Yesterday (Saturday Morning) I filled the portable tote with the galley & gray water and took off to the dump station. Upon arrival found both dump stations occupied. I pulled in behind a TT because there was no one around it and I thought they were finished. In about 10 minutes a guy comes to the rear of the TT and starts getting out hoses. I realize that I have picked the wrong line so move to the other. There is a MH there and a family (Grandma, Grandpa, daughter with husband and two small children) gathering at the hose area. They are working on the process and I watch them remove the flush hose and I think they are almost done. The hose was stored by committee and took several minutes and a lot of conversation. Then they proceeded to remove the three-inch hose and that same process begins again. I think to myself finally, thirty minutes have passed. Wrong again! They spent about another fifteen minutes washing off them selves. They finally moved the MH, but not far enough for me to get to it. I have the tote on the tailgate and needed to move up a little farther to reach the receptacle. I finally gave up and backed into the site to unload. When I left the dump station both the TT & MH were still there. I thought I was slow because I have read that some only take 5 to 10 minutes at a dump station. It usually takes me about 15 minutes. I got back to campsite and the DW asks what took you so long. She just laughed when I relayed the story.

I spend as little time as possible at the dump site. I also have a routine I follow to make it as quick as possible. Sounds like they may have been newbies.

I have waited several times behind self centered horse's butts who know what they are doing, but feel that they have the right to hold several others up, while they waste 20-30 minutes on their rituals, including dumping then rinsing the tanks, proceeded by another dump. If you can't dump in less than five minutes you need to learn how, or stop wasting everybody's valuable time, while you screw around. Nothing wrong with spending hours on the job if that's what blows your skirt up, but when you are blocking several others waiting to hit the road and head home, it's just wrong.

Man, sounds like you got behind a couple of nitwits. Unbelievable. Well, maybe not when I see what goes on and what it left behind! at the dump station. You wonder how they function in daily life. I always tell my wife that they are likely to be mangers in a large corporation

I allways have to laugh at people who go through some extended ritual, almost expect them to kneel down and say a prayer before and after, perhaps sacrafice a sheep or virgin or something giving thanks to the poop gods for the blessings of less constipation and the good burn after some real hot chili peper infested food, acompanied by the dressing and undressing of hazmat suits followed by a shower and of course a rinsing of the the 20 square feet of the trailer around the dumping pipes.
get out hose and hook up (30to45 sec)pull black valve and drain(1.5min) pull grey and drain(1.5 min) close gey valve, leave black open, put about 10 gal waterback nto black to flush out (2 to 3 min depending on hose flow) close black valve ,rinse out hose (30 sec) rinse of hose (15 sec) disconect and put away while DW rinses down any pad around dump hole(30 sec) wash hands (30 sec) get in truck and pull out (15 sec), there ya have it less than 10 minutes, and my tanks dump slow in my opinion due to their shape. I have seen folks do it in less than 5 but they usually are stowing away an unrinsed hose and leaving a mess on the pad, a few have tanks that flow out fast which is great, wish mine did, but that only makes for a 1 to 1.5 minute difference.
I have been caught in lineups with a dozen units in front of me makes for a long wait with only 1 dump station. patients is all you can have, impatients will only lead to frustration.
On thanksgiving it seem to be the worst as the park we usually go to closes that monday so everyone is all leaving within a 3 hour time frame, so I have learned to watch the flow of traffic out of the campground, get hooked up and wait till you see a time gap between people leaving, go for a walk on the beack or whatever, when that time gap occures then head out, I found the past 2 years I have been in a shorter lineup buy watching that pattern, seems between 11 and 1 the most leave so we wait till just before 2 and get out before that last few and we hit a lineup of maybe 3 units instead of a dozen.

Generally speaking these kind of folks not only don't know what they're doing, they never even thought about it until they saw the dump sign. Happens all the time with those who don't give a damn about anyone or anything except themselves.
I'll give anyone who is trying hard and is considerate of others as much time and help as they need, but the ignorant, incompetent and self centered drive me nuts.

I see the same thing all the time.I put my dump hose in the bed of the truck before I even leave my site, pull up to station, hook up hose, pull black handle,as soon as the hose gets "light" I pull rear and front gray handles, shut black valve,DW is in the TT in the bathroom, dumps some dish soap and a couple gallons of water in toilet,by now I'm shutting gray valves and rinsing hose, toss hose in plastic box in bed and run in TT and wash hands,or pull up to let next guy dump while I go wash in bath house, can't take more than 10-15 mins.tops, some people just don't care how long you have to wait behind them!

I agree, folks that take too long do not know what their doing...if they really think they know what they are doing they are just self centered and more thank likely they are like that 24/7.
I am only at the dump station long enough to hit the black and then the gray and poof...I am gone. If their is no one behind me - I may - just may go inside the trailer to run the water and the hose in the toilet for a minute or two. But....to be honest - thats really only at the end of a season...or agin, no one is behind me waiting.
No reason to hold anyone up at such a dirty job!

yea no reason to do all the rituals and cleaning when there is a line behind you. Honostly if you are using the dump station, its probably because you didnt have sewer hook up on the site. You likely have a fairly full tank then. If the tank has plenty in it, it will flow out good and almost clean itself. Empty the black, then the gray, then ON YOUR WAY!!! You can always do the full cleaning when you get to your next full hook up site.
