Someone please help me figure out which size generator will run a 13.5 btu rooftop A/C (30 amps) for my 5th wheel. We were without power for several days here in Louisiana during Gustav and could have stayed in our camper if we had a generator. We are now watching to see what Ike will do. My husband and I have read about Hondas and Yamahas, but would like feed back from others. We have discussed getting 2 Honda 2000s and a parallel kit. We have also read up on the Yamaha 2800. Can anyone give me some recomendations?

We have a 6500 watt Onan Marquis Gold generator built into our 5'er and we're very happy with it. Plenty of power and quiet. Wouldn't have a 5'er or MH without an Onan gen set. Good luck.
Happy camping!!! See ya'll down the road!!!

I have a Kipor 3000TI which is true sine wave. I got the genny included when I purchased my TT from an individual. It does a good job for us. We also have a 13,500 BTU AC. It weighs about 105#'s full of gas and is on small wheels. I don't know the cost right now, but you could do a search for best price. I think the decible rating is the same as the Honda 3000 watt, very quiet.
Hope you all make it safely through the storms.

I'll try and make it simple.
Watts=Amps X Volts, or Amps=Watts/volts. When most motorized appliances start up, they draw about 20-40% more power than when they're actually running, so a generator rated X+ watts surge and X watts continious can be taken into consideration.
30 Amps at 115V = 3450 Watts
Bottom line, two Honda 2000s shouldn't have a problem with 30 Amps at all. And the Yamaha might be pretty marginal at start-up, but if it doesn't croak at start-up, it will probably keep up okay with the A/C. My suggestion, however, go with the Hondas if you can. The nice thing about the Hondas is, if you only need to run one, it will be very quiet and miserly on fuel.
I hope you will enjoy reading my journal about my bicycle ride across America at www.crazyguyonabike.com/doc/dean I think you'll like my little RV adventure. I call my bicycle trailer set-up a 3-er!

There are many posts on this subject. A search will give you more information than you will ever need. Since you are at sea level you can probably get by with the 2 Honda EU2000Is or a Yamaha 2400I or EF2800 I. Don't plan to use other AC appliances at the same time. Our 13500 only uses 16 amps. Good luck.

One advantage of dual Honda 2000s versus a single Honda 3000 or a single Yamaha 2400 or 2800 Is I can pick up the Honda 200s, one at a time. I can not lift the Honda 3000. I can barely lift the Yamaha 2400. I have not tried lifting a Yamaha 2800.
I ain't getting any younger.

We use a Kipor 3000Ti Digital Generator (2600 Watts output) and it runs AC. It is a very Quite Geny, Noise Level is 54dB at idle. It has the same design as the Honda EU2000i, but the Kipor 3000Ti is more powerful. We bought ours brand new on ebay for under $900 with shipping.

Since it is for an emergency I would get the two Hondas. Consider an extended run fuel tank also.
