Flame on.
Could not have put it any better.
Sissies.
It's A DOG! Please tell me why I should die for a dog?Not a person BUT A DOG. Now let me see,my kids need me to work to make money for them for X-BOx-$100 shoes you know kids stuff. Also to make the house payment. So let my see my dog or my kids, this is HARD-----NOT THE HELL WITH THE DOG MY KIDS COME 1ST! I guess your kids don't. PLEASE GET A LIFE.
I can believe some of these folks jumping in before thinking about it. but if they pause for about 1/2 second, they will realize that it is extremely foolish. Hey I liked my dog and my cats, but I am not willing to die for them.

Ditto, no way I risk my life for my dog.
Oh, Susan, you shoulda gone to SCV like you were going to. You should PUT DOWN THE TACK, AND LEAVE THOSE POOR EGOS ALONE!
But I won't. Poor you! Here's the deal... the basic problem with all of you is that not only are you not in any way worthy of being your dog's leader (and you think you're a better parent for that? Good Grief!), your defeatist attitude and your assumption that you'd be killed, is what makes you sissies. Not the fact that you "aren't willing to die for a dog." It is the weak, fearful attitude.
Same with the remarks on Tomkat's run-in with a pack of pits. If he'd had the attitude of the person who answered that with "they're tougher than you!" he'd have been chewed to bits. Because he took a different attitude to the fight, he won it. Fear is weakness, and this is most true in the animal world.
I wonder when Americans became, in such a big way, such a nation of fearful, wimpy, spectators? Not all of us, surely, but.... there's a big chunk of this namby-pamby oh I don't want to get involved, big overgrown baby stuff that goes on. Keep the kids inside, its so much "more dangerous" now. No, it really isn't. We just have 24/7 news coverage of every incident, that convinces you that it is. Your brats are still far more at risk for abuse from family, friends, teachers and all those people that supervise their supervised activities, than from the bogie man on the street. What is dangerous is raising a child that doesn't know how to function out in the world, and won't have a chance to learn until leaving home. Never mind one at risk for diabetes (now there is something scary to talk about!) or that has a ten year history of legalized speed use that was put in place to substitute for actual physical activity. Or who thinks that a pair of shoes they will outgrow in a few months time is worth a hundred bucks. (Which explains a lot about the current economic mess, doesn't it?)
I could go on, but really I did have work to do today... suffice it to say I've been in a lot of tight spots with other humans. Someone who is going to brag about being too chicken to take on a shark to protect their dog, isn't someone I want at my side when things get serious. A sissy is a sissy, you've got it or you haven't.
(and now I'm going to try to go lose the tack...)

Ma'am. I'm not going to say bad stuff to you. No need. but consider this. It is my responsibility to pay for the house for the wife, and children to live in. Also they need schooling, College, food and you know. Things like that. Doctors as well.
Now say I'm stupid enough to jump in the water with a shark. And while it may not kill me. Say it takes my hand off. Or puts me in the hospital for a few months. Who pays for the house, the schools, the food, and what ever human children need?
As for being my dogs leader. He does what I tell him. When I tell him. And he loves me.
And As I said. Were it a person in that trouble. I'd take the chance. But. A dog is a dog. Not a person, and so, not worth ruining my families life over.
You may think it is macho to fight a shark, in it's element. I personally think it is stupid. Knowing when to fight, and what to fight for. Takes more intelligence. Ego is what makes you fight for the wrong stuff. I have no ego problem. But if you fall in the water, and it gets after you. I'll help..... You, not the shark.
BTW. My children aren't brats. Never have been. Were not raised that way. We just put people first.

Dude I'll let go,and I'm sorry for taking over this post. That was not my intent. I got a little hot and for that I am sorry to you. Have a good one.
They did a piece on one of the news shows tonight and they interviewed the guy with his dog. The guy said he was more worried about having to face his wife if anything happened to the dog, than about the shark
The dog is pretty cute too.
