Our favorite cabbage has Little Smokies in it. I put about an inch of water into a large pot and boil some Little Smokies (a couple of small handfulls for 1 head - you can probably use some turkey sausage) for about 20-30 minutes. Then I put chunks of cabbage in and let it steam until it starts getting soft. I like it soft, but with a little crunch left in it. Add salt and pepper to taste.

I'm not sure how healthy it is, but I love the way my wife makes it. She adds a chopped onion, a small can of rotel (sp?) tomatoes, one sliced sausage and margerine. She cooks until the smell nearly causes us to evacuate the house and then it is done. Tastes great, especially the next day, by which time we can re-enter the house for brief periods.

I saute a sweet onion in olive oil and butter until lightly browned. Add cabbage, grated garlic, and cracked black pepper, and cook until soft.
We serve it with grilled bratwurst or bockwurst, and maybe spaetzel.

I hope you're alone in that MH after eating that mixture!

Here's the DW's cabbage recipe.
Cut half a head in slivers about 1/4" wide. Fry 2 slices of bacon in large cast iron dutch oven and leave grease in pot. Place cabbage in dutch oven and add about a cup of water. Cook on medium heat covered. Stir frequently until cabbage is done to your liking. Crumble bacon and stir into cabbage. I like mine with a little crunch to it.

One of our favorite cabbage recipes is to coarsely chop cabbage, onion, green and red peppers and grate a carrot. Stir fry in bacon grease, butter or veg oil until tender crisp. I start with a small cabbage head and add the other ingredients to taste. This is a good hearty side dish for a pot of dried beans and corn bread. (It's a southern thing!)

There is a Polish cabbage dish called Halushki
Basically, lots of slivered onion fried in lots of butter, mix in slivered cabbage. Fry together until cabbage is soft. Pour this over boiled and drained egg noodles and toss together. Salt and pepper to taste. There are plenty of recipies and variations for the Googling.
