A ridiculously easy ground beef recipe is one of my favorites from childhood. Mom probably used it because it was always budget time at our house. Brown a pound or 2 of ground beef, drain, and add a can or 2 of red kidney beans, juice and all. Let it simmer in the pan for as long as you feel like, but be careful not to boil off the juice. Longer it simmers, better it tastes. You can add salt & pepper to taste, and I've been known to toss in a few drops of tabasco and maybe some mushrooms and/or onions, or even onion flakes. Mom always served with boiled potatoes and a veggie, so that's usually what I do too. Couldn't be easier, and tastes great! DW loves it too (maybe just because I'm cooking it, though!)

You must be related to me! Mom made this all of the time, her version had a chopped onion, canned tomatoes and mushrooms.

Add the cooked mac n cheese.
Make sure the mac n cheese has alot of milk so it will not dry out.
Place in the oven till bubbly and a lillte brown.
You can also add diced tomatos.

I add a package of taco seansoning mix....and call it Taco Casserole,
boys love it.....

also

tater tot casserole:

2 pounds ground beef
1/2 onion chopped (optional)
1 pkg frozen tater tots
1 can cream of mushroom soup
1 can milk

Brown hamburger, and then put in 9x12 baking dish, pour frozen tater tots on top, mix milk and soup together to thin and pour over tater tots, bake about 30 mins until tater tots are golden brown...

Boys and DH love it...just meat and potatoes, usually just serve a salad with this....

Enjoy.....

Old childhood favorite

Brown ground beef in a pan. Mix in water and flour to make a gravy. Then add a can of peas. Pour over mashed potatoes. Salt and pepper to taste.

I have been making a thing that wife didn't particularly like but I love

Brown off some good ground beef,, add in chopped garlic and a chopped medium onion,a good size tablespoon of ted chille power( I use ground chile power from Chaimio New Mexico, ) , let it simmer for a while till onions are opaque then add a can of good ole pork and beans. and a small can of tomato sauce,, get it all hot and eat it!!

I love it but I don't use the kidney beans, just a personal choice.

and of course a 1/2 lb. good ground burger patty mixed with dried onions, garlic, red hot chile pepper and grilled with a slice of good aged cheese on top makes a great burger fresh onion and good tomato on top. .. mushrooms are nice also.

I often buy a tender brisket and trim most of the fat off , then grind it to make my "hamburger meat" less fat and full of flavor.

My mother made Quick Beef Pie (it's not a pie)

Brown 1 lb hamburger, add can green beans, can of diced tomatoes, mix together, season and top with left over mashed potatoes. My children loved it.

My kids used to like hamburger steak made by making a good size patty(1/4?) seasoning with salt, pepper, garlic salt and????. Then dip in a egg wash, and roll in cracker crumbs. Fry and serve with mashed potatoes and gravy, or on a good hamburger bun.

Just a little different then a normal burger.

No one has mentioned good ole SOS

The easy recipe from the air force:

brown your hamburger
add flour to make a roux
add milk to thicken (makes a milk gravy with hamburger)
add salt and pepper
serve over toast or biscuits or mashed taters

When having money problems. This is served at least once or twice a week. Can really stretch out 1 lb of burger. My whole family LOVES it.

Yep, that's my favorite ground beef dish (next to burgers). I didn't even think of it in regards to this thread.

Steveruss said it best. I call it poor mans piggies. Crock pot layered with burger/rice mix, layered with cabbage and tomato suop. No need to pre-cook it. Add seasoning as you stomach permits. I'm really in for it now.
