In a couple of weeks I will be heading from CT to NC via I81 and will want to stop somewhere around WV/VA for an overnight break. Any suggestions on convenient campgrounds, Wal-Marts etc. Thanks, Tim

I am not sure of the exit #, but in Wytheville, VA on I-77/I-81 there is a Flying J. I have talked to several that spend the night there.

I also don't know the exit but there is a KOA in the same area if you want hookups.

There's a FlyingJ at exit 323 just after passing from WV into VA.

There's a Walmart at Martinsburg, WV. I've stayed there but not certain if it's still allowed.

There's a Walmart at the Apple Blossom Mall at Winchester, VA exit 313b. Go about 300 yds and make a left on S. Pleasant Valley Rd. Walmart is on the left about 500 yds. I've stayed here many times and there will be other RVs here. I suggest staying here. There is also a Cracker Barrel at this exit. To go to the Cracker Barrel take exit 313a and then the first right on to Front Royal Pike. Cracker Barrel is on the right about 100 yds.

In WV at the 23 milemarker, there is Falling Water Campsites, if you want hookups, a clean, no frills place with pullthrus.

The Martinsburg WalMart IS posted no overnight parking(because this WalMart does not own the land the store is on), but folks still stay there. Also, right adjacent to the walmart is a large parking area where Buffalo Wild Wings & Outback are and it is not posted. There is also a Cracker Barrel there. Best access for any of these is to use exit 13.

Going south, crossing into VA at the 323 milemarker is a Flying J

I used to stay at that KOA and also at another park a few miles North which "honored" the KOA card discount. Two flying Js a couple of miles apart. one sucks to get a RV in, don't remember which however.

I stayed there earlier this week. I wouldn't want to spend a long time there, but it was a good overnight spot. When we got there, we had a choice of a pull through with electric, water, WiFi, and cable, but no sewer. Or we could have a back-in with all of the above and with sewer.

We took the pull through so we didn't have to unhook the toad. The site was good, but trees made satellite aiming impossible. One section of the road was steep, but had no trouble getting through to the site. Exiting in the morning and getting back on I-81 South was easy.

The office staff was very friendly and helpful. When we were looking for paper towels in the camp store, and she had none, she was ready to go upstairs to her own living quarters and give us a roll from her personal supply!

WOW, I might have passed you on the interstate, as I drive a school bus and I'm on 81 quite a bit. Next time ya pass thru this way when you get to exit 8, toss a wave to the west, as I live about 5 miles from there. I sure wish I was out rv'ing instead of working, oh well hopefully only 8 more years to go.

In that area, we always overnight at the Fort Chiswell RV Park. It's a nice little place for an overnight with almost all pull-throughs. It's also far enough from the freeway to not get road noise. It's on the other side of the hill from the previously mentioned truck stop. It's the type of place that is empty at 2:00 pm and full by 6:00 pm.

You know, I did see quite a few school busses on I-81. I'll bet one of them was you!

I'll be sure and wave if I ever pass that way again!
