Today I did my monthly exercise of my Onan Marquis Gold, Model # 5.5HGJAB-901A genset. All was going aok until the second air conditioner was turned on and then rpm dropped and the genset started popping and sputtering. Seemed fuel starved so I decided to change the two fuel filters. There is one by the carb and one on the bottom of the genset. Anyway, only had one fuel filter lying around (you use the same filter top and bottom) so I changed the bottom fuel filter until I could get another filter. Just changing the bottom filter knocked out the problem I was having. So, I called a Cummins/Onan distributor in Orland, Fl. to order another fuel filter and he informed me Onan has done away with the use of 2 filters as they felt it was redundant. So, you use a filter on the bottom as usual but no filter up top by the carb. They sell an adapter ($18) to replace where the upper fuel filter was. Parts guy also mentioned the fuel filter they now use on the bottom is a different part number. Fellow said the other old part # filter is no longer available unless someone has old stock lying around. Anyway, again, there is only one filter now. I'll report back about the adapter install when I do it next week.

You don't happen to know the Onan part # for the fuel filter on the Onan Marquis Gold gas genny?

Is the Cummins Ona website the best place to purchase it?

There is a new part #. I will get the new number and post here on Monday. The old number was 0149-2629. I know you can still find this one on eBAY and elsewhere as old stock.

Heck. The Onan won't last long enough to plug the filter.

Not necessarily aimed at this poster.. BUT... Why is there always one or two people that reply with some nonsensical comment. Why not just read and move on if you can't add something constructive to a thread!

Sorry for the sarcasm.

I'm just tire of sinking money into my ONAN, and it's not even three years old.

Our Onan CMM 7000 is the commercial version of a Marquis Platinum. Ir runs EVERY day to support DW's mobile pet grooming business in our Ford E-350. She hits prime for 20 seconds, hits start, it runs. Most TV news trucks have one on board, and they HAVE to be reliable.

Changing the oil and filter every 100 hours and keeping an eye on the oil level daily is one of my habits. Properly maintained and kept in fresh fuel, an Onan will run for years of trouble free service. Try to run it without fresh fuel, never change the spark plugs, oil, and filters like many do, and you have problems.

People bad mouth the 6.0 Ford/Navistar Power Stroke diesel, too. I have two vehicles with those engines. Aside from having to replace a crank sensor on the van, ZERO problems.

Must come from all of that clean country living. )

$18 for an adapter?? to do away w/ the filter that is there now ? Why ? IMO, common sense tells me that if there is a filter on the bottom, the top one is never going to get plugged,....which is exactly why they tell you that you don't need a top one any more, and never did ! But why would you do away w/ it?

$18 for an adapter ??

Well, I did order the adapter and was told it would be $18 plus mailing costs. The parts guy stated the 0149-2629 fuel filter was replaced and no longer being manufactured as Onan Cummings said the second filter was redundant. This filter was used as the filter for the top and the bottom. The new filter they are using has a larger diameter and no longer will fit in the limited space area near the carb. Onan now will use the new filter offering on the bottom and the adapter in place of the fuel filter on the top.

I know I could have purchased the 0149-2629 filter somewhere still but had no idea how long they would be around. That is why I opted to just get the adapter. My guess is though, a threaded piece of pipe the appropriate length could easily be used instead of the adapter. I am not at home presently so opted to just buy the adapter versus with making up an adapter of my own which is what I would have done if I were not traveling. I'm sure a $3.00 trip to Lowe's for a fitting, a hack saw and maybe some threading done and I would have been good to go.

By the way, I agree two fuel filters to the same genset seems to be overkill/ not necessary.
