Time has come ( and probably well past ) for replacing the MagnaTek
converter in my Bee ( 94 Coachman Saratoga ) Do you think it be OK to upgrade to a 45 amp. version from the Magnatek 30?

Thanks...Steve

I did exactly what you described in my last TT.
What a mistake! I could have gotten a good converter like a Progressive Dynamics unit for less money.
Here Best Converter is a good source for converters and it also has directions for upgrading your existing conv to a better model.

See my web page. http://myroadtrek.homestead.com/NewConverter.html
Make sure to click on the underlined links to the right of the photos for some good information on doing the install. Especially Rick & Barbs web site.

Thanks for the replies..Do you see any problem upgrading to the 45Amp as opposed to the 30 one I've got now?

No, but make sure you get a good 3 stage charger, like the Progressive Dynamics.

We upgraded to the Progressive Dynamics PD9145 with Charge Wizard and took the old Magnetek to the dump where it had always belonged!

After boiling several house batteries dry, I determined, thanks in large part to this forum, that it wasn't a faulty battery, but a converter with "prehistoric" technology.

I replaced the magnatek junk with a WFCO. Bought it from Best Converters. The kit I got was designed to fit the exact space the old junk was in. It's a pretty easy change out.

This one also has a 3 stage converter. I haven't had any problems with batteries now.

I got the 45amp converter. There are no problems at all.

I went with the 3 stage WFCO for my project.

Either way, I HIGHLY recommend Randy at BestConverter.com.....

truly superior service.

Ok; thanks for the replies...I found this from the Progressive dynamics website:

1. Do not install a converter whose amperage rating is higher than that which originally came installed in your application. Doing so may cause wiring to overheat, resulting in damage to components and/or fire.

Thanks Again, SW
